Kitao Sakura, an up-and-coming filmmaker perhaps best known for 2021’s Bad Trip and several episodes of the 2023 Twisted Metal series, is currently putting the finishing touches on Legendary and Paramount Pictures’ live-action adaptation of Capcom’s classic video game Street Fighter, which is set to hit theaters on October 16, 2026.

Stars appearing in Street Fighter include Andrew Koji (Snake Eyes) as Ryu; Noah Centineo (The Recruit) as Ken; Roman Reigns aka Joe Anoa’i (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) as Akuma; Jason Momoa (Aquaman) as Blanka; and musician Orville Peck as Vega.

The film also stars Callina Liang (Presence) as Chun-Li; Comedian Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki; David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil) as M. Bison; Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson (Get Rich or Die Tryin’) as Balrog; WWE’s Cody Rhodes (Arrow) as Guile; Vidyut Jammwal (Sanak, Commando) as Dhalsim; professional wrestler Hirooki Goto (Headshot) as E. Honda; and Eric André (Ironheart), as ring announcer Don Sauvage (first appearing in Street Fighter V).

Anthony Rinna, a stunt performer on films including 2020’s Mulan and 2017’s Kung Fu Yoga, as well as the fight choreographer behind 2023’s Blue Beetle and this year’s The Wrecking Crew, is handling the film’s action.

Street Fighter hits theaters on October 16, 2026.

🔥 Footnote: The live action history of Street Fighter began with Steven E. de Souza’s 1994 film starring Jean Claude Van Damme, which became one of his highest grossing movies despite being savaged by critics and fans. Hong Kong got in on the action earlier, with Wong Jing parodying the game in Jackie Chan’s City Hunter (1992) and unofficially, in Future Cops (1993). These were followed by Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li (2009), starring Kristin Kreuk and Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist (2014), starring Mike Moh, which later spawned a feature film edit and the 2015 follow up Street Fighter: Resurrection.

  1. Andrew Hernandez says:

I’ve been a fan of Walton Goggins since The Shield, but I don’t see him as M Bison. If he were to accept the role, I would hope he’d be as convincing as possible. If you’re gonna wear a red military style suit, you better be very intimidating and imposing.

Tell me your thoughts on who think should play Bison. I think he can. He has a muscular physique which he can build up Alittle more and he has already played tough guy roles

      • Ningen says:

I think The Rock would be a good good choice.

      • Andrew Hernandez says:

Kevin Porter played a convincing M Bison in that crossover tribute film Power Rangers Legacy Wars: Street Fighter Beatdown. It would be great if he reprised the role. Alan Ritchson would also be a good choice.

Even though Bison is 5’10, I don’t think having a taller guy portray him would be bad. The only thing I have against Walton Goggins playing him is that he has that Deep South swagger, and it doesn’t really translate well into an international warlord.

      • JJ Bona says:

Daniel Bernhardt or Scott Adkins would be the ideal choices for M Bison. Given their spotlights in recent mainstream releases.

        • Ulric says:

          Actually those could work too

        • Andrew Hernandez says:

Daniel Bernhardt would be great since he has a similar look and had Bison-like characteristics in Hell Hath No Fury. I’d rather see Scott Adkins play someone heroic like Abel or Remy.

M Bison is operates in Thailand, but he’s never had a nationality and has always been portrayed as Caucasian and possibly European.

  2. Ulric says:

I love the Rock but he is 6’5″. Bison is 5’11”. Walter Goggins is 5’10”. That means Walter Goggins is closer in height and he could beef up more. He has a very muscular physique

  3. Ningen says:

    Steven Seagal should be Dan.

  4. Typo says:

I’d rather watch a new anime with the technical qualities of the one from 1994…but with a more comlex and better scenario.

  5. Cuttermaran says:

According to Wikipedia Dan Hibiki is Hong Kongese.
I want my Street Fighter characters true to its source material. Sorry.

  6. Andrew Hernandez says:

David Dastmalchian looks more like M Bison than Walton Goggins. I am a little concerned about this cast so far. Roman Reigns might have been good for someone else, but I don’t see any Akuma in him. Will Akuma be changed so that he’s Samoan?

And what made Orville Peck a candidate for Vega? Those damn masks? One would expect Marko Zaror would be a more obvious choice. Jacob Scipio would have been a great Vega too.

And I hope they bring in a great fight choreographer with an impressive resumé. Kenji Tanigaki, Brahim Chab, Tim Man, and Andy along come to mind.

    • Albert Valentin says:

Jon Valera of 87Eleven will be serving as the film’s stunt coordinator, but not sure yet who will be directing the fights.

  7. Ningen says:

‘Sonic news’ makes people think it has to do with that other video game movie series…

  8. Andrew Hernandez says:

It’s about time Hollywood take notice of Vidyut! I know Dhalsim stretches, but I hope the movie balances enough of his natural skill along with the special effects.

  9. Ulric says:

I am happy Vidyut Jammwal finally got a Role in a Hollywood Movie. It’s overdue now

  10. Albert Valentin says:

The unknown actress is Melanie Jarnson, who played Nitara in Mortal Kombat (2021). She recently appeared in Chuck Russell’s reimagining of Witchboard. She’s playing Cammy.

  12. Andrew Hernandez says:

I like this teaser! It looks like the film has the potential to be fun. It also seems like the film makers are partially inspired by Future Cops with the mix of zaniness.

  13. Ulric says:

I am liking it so far. It looks fun

  14. Anonymous says:

The original Street Fighter was fun cheese. I saw it cinemas back in 1994. Raul Julia gave an Oscar worthy performance.

I remember how popular it was here.

  15. Dal says:

Well that looks god awful! Why did they even bother! 😆

Okay this new Trailer was cooking. I love it

  17. Ska Martes says:

Genuine question. Why are there so many of these tournament style setups for American martial arts movies. Even Bruce Lee’s American movie was just another boring tournament with boring 1 v 1 battles except when that extended sequence where he goes Bond and infiltrates Dr Evils evil lair.

  18. Andrew Hernandez says:

Street Fighter was decent. What it does well is focus on the fun factor and making the whole world within the movie colorful and exaggerated. Unfortunately, there was a lot of excessive bullshit and the film makers needed to be reigned in from time to time.

For the good, most of the cast does well with the material they’re working with, Andrew Koji finally has a good action film role after being wasted in previous movies. Callina Liang was great as Chun-Li and really threw herself into the role. It was great to see Vidyut Jammwal shine as Dhalsim without the special effects taking away from his natural skills. The anime sequences were a nice touch and the fight scenes are done well enough. I could have done without the CGI stunts, but it wasn’t as awful as I thought it would be.

Of course it’s hard to ignore the bad. Noah Centineo puts in a lot of effort, but he needed to be dialed back and he should not have gotten top billing. I had hopes for David Dastmalchian putting in a sinister performance as M Bison after Late Night with The Devil, but he came across as an overly quirky Wes Anderson movie character. It was completely wrong and made Bison look more like a clown than an evil monster.

I had hopes for Cody Rhodes as Guile, but he was not charismatic here as he is in WWE. He was overly cartoonish annd comedic. It undermined his credibility, especially since he had less involvement in the fight scenes than I hoped. I don’t understand why they had Jason Mamoa be CGI as Blanka. He already had the look, and just needed green make-up and orange hair. Trying to make him look like a CG Hulk was a bad idea. Then there’s Eric Andre who didn’t need to be in the movie at all. He was super annoying and his screen time took away from characters who needed it more. I really wanted Mel Jarson’s Cammy to have a good role in the film, but the film makers kept forgetting that she was in the movie.

The movie really stretches things out as situations that could have been wrapped up quickly get drawn out, and there’s no conclusion to the movie as the film makers commit that stupid trend of sequel-baiting and forcing the audience to wait till the next movie for the denouement.

Maybe this will grow on me in future viewings, but I was hoping for something more than decent.
