After the massive success of 2025’s The Shadow’s Edge, which dominated the Chinese box office for four straight weekends, it’s no surprise that a sequel is already in production. Larry Yang (Ride On) returns to direct, with Victoria Hon (Mountain Cry) once again producing after the pair’s successful collaboration on the original.
Returning stars for the sequel include Jackie Chan (Panda Plan: The Magical Tribe), Tony Leung Ka Fai (Blades of the Guardians), Ci Sha (Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms), Zhang Zifeng (High Forces) and Moon Junhui (The Legend Is Born: Ip Man).
After Fu Longsheng (Leung) is imprisoned, Huang Dezhong (Chan) and He Qiuguo (Zhang) discover that the true mastermind is still at large. As their investigation deepens, a wave of brutal violence sends the case spiraling out of control, exposing a far larger and more secretive criminal network. To uncover the truth, they must survive a deadly high stakes game with no escape.
It should be noted that Tony Leung Ka-fai won the Best Actor award for his villanous role in The Shadow’s Edge at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards. In fact, the film is noted for the final face off between Chan and Leung, as stated by City on Fire’s Paul Bramhall in his review:
“The final face off between Chan and Leung probably being the most violent of both of their long careers. Those looking for intricate choreography or long uninterrupted takes are in the wrong place, but what we get in place of them is something completely different from anything we’ve seen before in a Jackie Chan movie. Both desperately trying to kill the other, it’s a scrappy and guttural brawl that takes place within the confines of a cramped teahouse, with collateral damage being the order of the day and plenty of blood spilled.”
Footnote: There have been persistent rumors that Chow Yun-fat (The Killer, Hard Boiled) is attached to the sequel (could he be the aforementioned “true mastermind” still at large?). If true, it would mark the first on-screen collaboration between Chow and Jackie Chan. It’s hard to believe that two of Hong Kong cinema’s biggest legends have never shared the screen, but there’s still hope. High profile stars have been known to join productions at the last minute. And who wouldn’t want to see a bloody showdown between Chow and Chan?

Although I would not like it to be rushed, I also don’t want the window of opportunity to go away with having Jackie Chan and Tony Leung Ka Fai back again. Also, it would be nice if Shadow’s crew got more screentime as well.
The film had a limited theatrical U.S. release on August 22, so we anticipate a wide official U.S. release date soon.
Not sure they’ll release it again.

This could be cool but I hope they give the sequel the same love the first received so for now I’ll remain calm on it till I see the trailer.
He shootings Amor of god 4 right now and ended with a broken arm. How he shootings this movie too at the same time?

That said, it’s not unusual for actors to juggle multiple productions at the same time. And just because a movie has started shooting doesn’t mean Jackie’s scenes are being filmed first.
Even so, at Jackie’s age, it’s still incredibly impressive.
This is the most fun I’ve had with a Jackie Chan movie since New Police Story and Rob-B-Hood. It’s been that long. Deserving of every accolade it’s gotten. Tony Leung Ka Fai is one of those underrated superstars. If you’ve seen him in The Lover or Island of Greed, it’s wild how much he’s transformed from sleekly charismatic and darkly handsome to terrifyingly menacing. Especially contrasted against his comedic performances, like in Return of the God of Gamblers.
Jackie has a good track record with maintaining tone and quality in his sequels, from Project A 2, Police Story 2, Rush Hour 2, Shanghai Knights, etc. And if they add CYF, that would just be the icing on the cake.
