Hong Kong filmmaker Herman Yau (We’re Nothing At All) is taking a stab at the COVID-19 pandemic with a thriller titled, Angel in White.
The upcoming film will reunite Yau with his Shock Wave and Shock Wave 2 star Andy Lau (Chasing the Dragon, The Adventurers), who will play a doctor caught on the medical front lines. Yang Zishan (Till the End of the World) co stars.
🔥 Footnote: With dozens of credits as a cinematographer and director, Herman Yau (The Untold Story, Taxi Hunter, Ebola Syndrome) is one of the most prolific filmmakers ever to have worked in Hong Kong cinema. Considering that he’s gone all respectable with historical action pictures like The Legend is Born: Ip Man and The Woman Knight of Mirror Lake – not to mention edge-of-your-seat blockbusters like Shock Wave – it’s easy to forget that Yau got his start in the grimy, nasty world of Category III.

If this was Herman Yau of 1993 we would get a down and dirty exploitation movie/ “true story” hybrid where Andy Lau is cucked by his wife and given covid and decides to enact revenge by infecting as many people as possible until Danny Lee stops him.
2026 Herman Yau will also tell the “true story” of the wuhan flu and its origins as a bioweapon dropped into a wet market by an American tourist/CIA agent. There will be some text at the end of the movie explaining how Xi DaDa’s policies saved millions of live vs the death stats from the CDC in America
Personally I was hoping this was going to be a sequel to Yau’s ‘Kung Fu Angels’, but I guess we can’t have everything.
I didn’t even know this movie existed!!! And i say this as a fan of Herman Yau’s more obscure movies. Who has love for Herbal Tea, a romcom with Jordan Chan and Candy Lo or From the Queen to the Chief Executive about a prisoner who will never get released under British colonialism as it hands over to a potentially authoritarian government.
