Martial arts stars Loren Avedon (Raging Thunder, Manhattan Chase) and Keith Vitali (Bloodmoon, Wheels on Meals) are working on delivering a spiritual successor to their 1990 cult action movie, Blood Brothers (aka No Retreat, No Surrender 3: Blood Brothers).

The news comes from Avedon himself (via his Facebook): “My Blood Brother @keith_vitali … we’re actively looking for a script and funding for a new “Blood Brothers” film. 3 generations of fans it’s a slam dunk guaranteed money maker. We’re gonna bring back ground pounding martial arts action in film. If you are a serious investor and realize this is a great opportunity DM me.”

Again, as aforementioned above, the follow up would be a spiritual successor, not an official sequel, to Blood Brothers, as noted by Vitali on social media: “Actually, we talked about working together again, but not in a Seasonal Film/No Retreat, No Surrender sequel. Any fresh ideas for a movie, please send them to Loren with funding”.

Blood Brothers was the 4th film in the No Retreat, No Surrender franchise (if you don’t count King of the Kickboxers, which was known as No Retreat, No Surrender 4 in some regions), a Seasonal Films series that was related by name-only, but all had the common denominators of having Avedon, writer Keith W. Strandberg, producer Ng See-yuen and action directors Corey Yuen, Tony Leung Siu Hung and Lucas Lowe involved – of course, all this talent is what gave the series their “Hong Kong productions, but shot in America” flavor, which proved to be a successful combination in the late 80s/early 90s straight-to-video boom. Perhaps, the most famous entry in the series is the 1985 original, which introduced both Corey Yuen and Jean-Claude Van Damme to Hollywood.

The original Blood Brothers centered around two feuding brothers (one a policeman, Vitali, the other a martial arts expert, Avedon) of different political views, join forces to avenge the death of their father, a retired agent, killed by the mafia.

This news can be seen as pre-mature, given funding deals and script are in-the-works, but considering all the successful crowdfunding of indie films, particularly Cynthia Rothrock’s upcoming, all-star martial arts thriller Black Creek (3rd most successfully funded action film fall time), a sequel to Blood Brothers could easily become a reality.

We’ll keep you updated a we learn more. Until then, here’s the classic trailer for No Retreat, No Surrender 3: Blood Brothers:

  1. I’d be willing to wager we’ll see ‘Manhattan Chase 2’ before we see this one.
