Considering The Furious debuted to a strong $19.6 million globally during its worldwide opening weekend, it comes as little surprise that a sequel is already in the works.
Producer Bill Kong of Hong Kong’s Edko Films has revealed that a sequel to The Furious may already be in development. “I can promise you one thing, that if there’s going to be a sequel, it will be a better film than the first one”, he said (via Henderson Movies).
(Kong’s comments were technically framed as “if there’s going to be a sequel,” but we’re not going to let a little semantics spoil the fun).
The Furious stars Xie Miao (My Father is A Hero, Eye for an Eye: The Blind Swordsman), Joe Taslim (The Raid, The Night Comes for Us), Jeeja Yanin (Chocolate, Triple Threat), Yayan Ruhian (The Raid, Beyond Skyline), Brian Le (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Yang Enyu (Lighting Up the Stars), Sahajak Boonthanakit (Asian Connection), Joey Iwanaga (Baby Assassins 2), Winai Wiangyangkung (Monkey Man) and Enyou Yang (Eye for An Eye 2).
There’s no word yet on who might return for the sequel, and even if some characters don’t survive the first film, it’s not unusual for familiar actors to reappear in new roles (just ask Yayan Ruhian, who appeared in both The Raid and The Raid 2 playing entirely different characters).
That raises the question: who would you like to see in The Furious II? Share your picks in the comments below!
🔥 Footnote: Bill Kong’s producing credits include an impressive lineup of martial arts and Hong Kong cinema thrillers, such as 2000’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, 2004’s House of Flying Daggers, 2006’s Fearless, 2013’s Firestorm, and 2016’s Cold War 2. With a resume like that, it’s safe to say he’s a man of action rather than words, both figuratively and literally.
We’ll keep you updated as we learn about The Furious 2. Stay tuned!

Here’s a giant list of martial arts actors who could in theory join this hypothetical sequel. I am seeing it opening day and can’t wait.

No Don “The Dragon” Wilson? List rejected. =)
I also forgot Iko Uwais.
Would definitely be interesting to see Bren Foster in a HK flick. They’d get the best out of him for sure.
Queria saber cuando se estrena la pelicula en Argentina ?
Quizás quieras esperar a que realmente la hagan primero. 😄
The above names would be great additions to the film. I’d like to throw in
Lateef Crowder
Zhou Xiaofei
Matt Mullins
Marrese Crump
Orphée Ladouceur-Nguyen
Johnny Nguyen
Taemi
Jiang Luxia
Nic Tse
Max Huang
Bryan Vigier
Jason Statham
And bring back Kensuke Sonomura for fight choreography!
Chris Mark
Jackie Chan (why not – he’s definitely not against ultra violence!)
Jet Li (possible re-team with Xie Miao?)
Ludi Lin
Veronica Ngo (afterall, she starred in FURIE, which is, title-wise, already 50% of FURIOUS) =)
Terrance Lau
Of course it would be great to have Jackie and Jet there just as long as there isn’t excessive doubling. They’re still going strong now, but I wonder how long that’ll last.
“strong $19.6 million”
Compared to the more than 100M$ made by City of darkness in China, it’s score is very poor: dead at about 30M$.
I debuted miserabily in Hong Kong: 2MHK$ in three days (City of darkness made more than 100M$HK there).
It flopped in France.

Iko Uwais
Jet Li
