ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL! Sneak peek at the ‘Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In’ sequel that’s currently in production

Two years ago, director Soi Cheang Pou Soi (SPL II: A Time for Consequences), alongside producers Wilson Yip (Paradox) and John Chong (Paradox), revealed plans for both a prequel and a sequel to 2024’s Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In. And today, those plans are in full effect!

Twilight of the Warriors: The Final Chapter, the sequel to the aforementioned Hong Kong martial arts thriller, is now filming, featuring yet another massive recreation of Hong Kong’s Kowloon Walled City while also utilizing real locations across the city, including abandoned buildings.

Whereas Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In takes place in the 1980s, Twilight of the Warriors: The Final Chapter is set in 1993, the year the Walled City was demolished.

This time around, Daniel Wu (Caught in Time, Sky on Fire) is joining returning cast members Raymond Lam (Back to the Past), Terrance Lau (Stuntman), German Cheung (Kung Fu Jungle) and Tony Wu (Raging Fire). There’s no word yet on any other stars being involved. Also back is production designer Kenneth Mak (Kung Fu Jungle) and action choreographer Kenji Tanigaki (The Furious, Enter the Fat Dragon).

Like the original, the sequel draws from Yuyi’s novel City of Darkness, with a screenplay by Au Kin Yee and Shum Kwan Sin (Limbo). The production companies behind Twilight of the Warriors: The Final Chapter include Media Asia, Entertaining Power and One Cool Film Production Limited.

As of now, there is no set production date for the prequel, Twilight of the Warriors: The Dragon Throne/Dragon Head (aka Part 3), but we’ll keep you updated as more news is made available.

🔥 Footnote: The actual Kowloon Walled City, as portrayed in the Twilight of the Warriors franchise, began as a small Chinese military fort and eventually became one of the most densely populated places on Earth. After World War II, refugees and low income families filled it in, turning it into a maze of stacked apartments and narrow alleyways. By the 1980s, about 35,000 people lived there. It was known for both its lawless reputation and tight knit community, before being demolished in 1993. Today, the site is a public park in Hong Kong.

We expect Twilight of the Warriors: The Final Chapter to hit cinemas in late 2027/early 2028. Until then, check out some new candid production photos from the set, which includes some vintage automobiles (including the same make/model of Bruce Lee’s red 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350SL Roadster), as well as a shot of Daniel Wu and Terrance Lau (via hk01).

And another trilogy! And a spin-off! And a live TV series! And an anime one!

    And let’s call it…THE WARRIORSVERSE!
    Or THE KOWLOONVERSE!

city of darkness have a hk comics and for the animation there is no direct animated film or series now(while there’s no anime or animated series yet, these new comic projects are a sign the story is still expanding. If they’re successful, an animated adaptation could very well be the next logical step down the line.)

One of the local HK newspapers captured a little bit of footage of their filming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xwgSppv_xk

The video description seems to reveal a couple of new cast members as well (albeit for some minor supporting roles): George Au, a local Hong Kong singer (歐鎮灝), Henick Chou (周漢寧), local actor who’s appeared in some smaller budget HK films and portrays one of Terrance Lau’s underlings, and Tyson Yoshi, also a local HK singer who appears to be Terrance Lau’s new boss.
