Former Lionsgate film chief Erik Feig now has that studio’s most bankable star, Keanu Reeves (John Wick franchise), in his hands for Kill Current, an upcoming actioner being developed by his new production company, The Arena.
The film, an adaptation of Oliver Lowe’s spy novel, Kill Current: A Jon Hendricks Thriller, revolves around Jon Hendricks (Reeves), a burned out CIA officer who is pulled back into action to avenge the protégé he trained and lost. Rather than looking back at the Cold War, Kill Current will focus on the threats shaping today’s headlines, including technological and information warfare.
Reeves will also produce with Alexandra Grant via Two Dragonflies, with the project marking the first to emerge from his new, previously unannounced production banner. Molly Stern and her publisher Zando will exec produce. Already, The Arena has unveiled a teaser for the project, which you can view above (via Deadline).
🔥 Footnote: Could Kill Current be Keanu Reeves’ next big franchise? He’s already struck gold with The Matrix and John Wick, so if this one hits, there’s no reason it couldn’t kick off another successful series for Reeves.
