A thematic sequel to the 2024 Tony Jaa actioner Striking Rescue, titled Striking Rescue: Nameless, is on its way, with director Siyu Cheng (Sin Trade, Striking Rescue) and action choreographer Guo Yulong (Striking Rescue) returning.
This time around, the story and characters are entirely new (think SPL II), with Ashton Chen (Black Storm, Wings of Dread) and Andy On (Hunt the Wicked, 100 Yards) taking center stage.
Striking Rescue: Nameless also stars Liu Fengchao (The Scavenger), Clara Lee (Operation Hummingbird), Gong Ruolan (Hidden Blade), Liang Dongyu (The Scavenger) and Wei Ziqian (Female Special Police Officer), via FCS.
Martial arts star Ashton Chen rose to fame as a child star with the 1994 kung fu comedy Shaolin Popey and its sequel. After taking time away to focus on his education, Chen returned to acting in more mature roles, including an appearance in 2010’s Ip Man 2. Today, he continues to showcase his abilities in films such as 2024’s Black Storm and The Drunken Prodigy.
Fellow martial arts star Andy On made his Hong Kong film debut as the title character in 2002’s Black Mask 2: City of Masks. He quickly established himself in action cinema, earning a Hong Kong Film Award nomination for 2003’s Star Runner before appearing alongside Jackie Chan in 2004’s New Police Story. Other notable credits include 2010’s True Legend, 2012’s The Viral Factor 2014’s Once Upon a Time in Shanghai, and 2024’s 100 Yards.
🔥 Footnote: Chinese web movies (as seen on iQIYI and Hi-YAH!) have become a goldmine for martial arts fans, especially those who miss the glory days of Hong Kong action cinema. With stars like Xie Miao (The Furious, Eye for an Eye 2), along with the aforementioned Ashton Chen and Andy On, there’s plenty to get excited about when a new martial arts web flick is announced. They may lack big budgets and theatrical releases (not to mention some pretty crappy AI poster artwork), but many will surprise you. In fact, the martial arts film of the year wouldn’t default to The Furious to someone like Paul Bramhall.
We’ll keep you updated on this project as we learn more.
