Martial arts star Scott Adkins (Avengement, Ip Man 4, Castle Falls, Boyka: Undisputed IV) is reuniting with director Christian Sesma for War Paint, an upcoming revenge thriller where Adkins will play not one, but two roles. Adkins previously worked with the Vigilante Diaries and Take Back director for the soon-to-be released actioner, Section Eight (read our recent review for it).
War Paint is written by Ian Graham and frequent Adkins/Sesma collaborator, Chad Law (Black Water), who penned 2015’s Close Range, 2016’s Jarhead 3: The Siege and the aforementioned Section Eight.
Here’s what you can expect from the plot of War Paint: When a Hollywood action star is murdered (Adkins), his identical twin (Adkins) takes on the likeness of his brother’s most famous character, striking fear into the hearts of his killers by seeming to return from the dead in his quest for revenge.
It’s hard not to think about an action star playing dual roles without thinking about Jean-Claude Van Damme, who did the same in 1991’s Double Impact, 1996’s Maximum Risk, and 2001’s Replicant. Of course, Double Impact was the film that most likely gave Jackie Chan the inspiration to play dual roles himself for 1992’s Twin Dragons.
War Paint is currently in production for a 2023 release, but we will keep you updated as we learn more. For now, here’s your first look at Adkins in the film as the titular character (via imdb.com).

What the fuck is Scott Adkins doing fucking around with this Christian Sesma guy? Dude is a fucking hack, making the worst kind of DTV shit possible. There are directors out there making low-budget action films that show an understanding of the craft, then there are guys like this that seem to be able to churn out garbage movie after garbage movie and somehow end up making a joint with Scott Adkins, who deserves better…
This film will be awful. We all know it.
I feel you and have been thinking the the same thing. What’s it like to be a b-movie action star? I’ll never know, but something tells me it’s one of “gotta put food on the table/gotta keep the lights on” type of things. Scott’s whole career has been hit or miss.
With the right director this sounds like it could be great.
Unfortunately, I didn’t care for the direction in Section 8, so can’t have high expectations about this one.
Btw, actress Jaime King is also in this. The only cast member disclosed other than Scott Adkins.
