8 Bollywood Movies Shot in the UAE

Bollywood, the vibrant Indian film industry, is renowned for producing extravagant and visually stunning movies. Over the years, filmmakers have ventured beyond their traditional shooting locations to capture the beauty and grandeur of international destinations. One such favored destination is the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with its iconic landmarks like the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Miracle Garden, The Palm, Atlantis etc, providing breathtaking backdrops for many Bollywood movies. Let’s take a closer look at eight Bollywood movies that have been shot in the UAE, featuring these spectacular locations.

Happy New Year (2014)

Directed by the imaginative Farah Khan, “Happy New Year” seized the UAE’s architectural marvel, the Burj Khalifa, to mirror its high-octane plot. As the world’s tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa became a metaphor for the movie’s towering aspirations and electrifying energy. The climax, set against this iconic backdrop, witnessed a mesmerizing dance sequence that encapsulated the triumph of the characters. This exhilarating fusion of choreography and architectural splendor provided a stunning visual crescendo, cementing the UAE’s presence as more than just a backdrop but an integral character in the film’s narrative.

Dilwale (2015)

“Dilwale,” directed by Rohit Shetty, marries romance and beauty against the enchanting landscapes of the UAE. The Dubai Miracle Garden serves as an artistic canvas, mirroring the blossoming love between Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s characters. Amidst vibrant floral arrangements, the garden becomes a poetic representation of their emotions, adding depth to the film’s storytelling. Additionally, Atlantis, The Palm, a symbol of luxury, enriches the narrative’s emotional palette, capturing the essence of love’s grandeur. The film’s infusion of emotional depth with Dubai’s splendor crafts a cinematic tapestry that lingers in the hearts of audiences.

Race 3 (2018)

In Remo D’Souza’s action-packed “Race 3,” the UAE unfolds as a tapestry of contrasts. From the sleek modernity of the Abu Dhabi Corniche to the timeless allure of the Liwa Desert, the film captured the country’s dynamic essence. The juxtaposition of contemporary architecture against the unspoiled desert’s golden sands created a visual spectacle that celebrated both the UAE’s urban grandeur and its natural beauty. Through meticulous cinematography, the movie wove these contrasting landscapes into the storyline, enhancing the film’s narrative depth and visually captivating audiences with a thrill.

Bang Bang (2014)

The pulse-pounding action of “Bang Bang,” a thrilling adaptation of “Knight and Day,” leveraged Dubai’s emblematic Burj Khalifa for its high-octane sequences. As Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif navigated the tower’s dizzying heights, the skyscraper evolved from a mere location into a co-star that symbolized the characters’ audacious endeavors. The Burj Khalifa’s significance extended beyond its architectural magnificence, embodying the film’s themes of pushing boundaries and reaching new heights. Through breathtaking stunts against this iconic backdrop, the movie seamlessly integrated Dubai’s allure into its narrative, forging an unforgettable cinematic experience.

Tiger Zinda Hai (2017)

Ali Abbas Zafar’s cinematic masterpiece, “Tiger Zinda Hai,” unfurls its gripping narrative against the majestic landscapes of Abu Dhabi, creating a visual extravaganza characterized by action, intensity, and emotion. The sprawling dunes of the Liwa Desert serve as a metaphorical canvas, mirroring the daunting challenges that the protagonists must overcome in their mission. This natural expanse echoes the trials and tribulations faced by the characters, their struggle encapsulated in the vast, untamed beauty of the desert.

In stark contrast, the Emirates Palace Hotel emerges as a beacon of luxury and opulence, representing the elevated stakes of the mission and the sophisticated backdrop against which the story unfolds. The juxtaposition of the desert’s raw intensity and the hotel’s refined elegance adds depth to the film’s thematic exploration of duality and sacrifice. The UAE’s role transcends that of a mere setting; it transforms into a pivotal character, echoing the spirit of resilience and determination that drives the protagonists forward.

Dishoom (2016)

In Rohit Dhawan’s cinematic creation “Dishoom,” the audience embarks on a delightful comedic escapade set against the mesmerizing desert vistas of Abu Dhabi. Here, the vast and timeless expanse of the desert assumes a character of its own, seamlessly merging with the film’s vibrant narrative. The golden dunes, stretching into the horizon, serve as a metaphor for the unpredictability that underscores the characters’ rollicking adventure. This symbiotic relationship between the desert and the storyline creates an experience that transcends the conventional cinematic encounter.

Indeed, the seamless fusion of humor and the enchanting beauty of the desert gives rise to a truly distinctive cinematic endeavor. The comedic rhythm of the film finds an unlikely yet harmonious partner in the mesmerizing topography of Abu Dhabi’s desert. Far beyond being a passive backdrop, the desert becomes an active participant in the narrative, influencing the characters’ escapades and eliciting laughter from the audience.

Airlift (2016)

Raja Krishna Menon’s “Airlift” masterfully weaves historical events into the UAE’s embrace, creating a narrative tapestry that resonates with authenticity. Filmed in Ras Al Khaimah and other UAE locales, the movie captures the turbulence and resilience of characters during the Gulf War evacuation. These landscapes become more than locations; they mirror the journey of hope and survival. By immersing itself in the UAE’s historical context, the film not only engages with the past but also paints a poignant portrait of human endurance against a backdrop of stark beauty.

Housefull 3 (2016)

In Sajid-Farhad’s uproarious comedy “Housefull 3,” the sprawling metropolis of Dubai emerges as more than just a setting; it transforms into a living, breathing character that infuses the film with an extra layer of hilarity. The filmmakers expertly harness the vibrant backdrop of Dubai, skillfully weaving it into the narrative’s comedic fabric. The city’s magnetic allure and architectural splendor become integral to the film’s comedic situations, serving as catalysts for a series of uproarious events.

Dubai’s iconic landmarks stand tall as both witnesses and participants in the characters’ humorous escapades. The clever interplay between opulent surroundings and slapstick comedy creates a delightful contrast, accentuating the film’s comedic rhythm. The luxurious settings and the often-absurd situations of the characters blend harmoniously, resulting in a dynamic fusion that fuels the laughter.

A gripping cybercrime thriller, skillfully harnessed Singapore’s sleek and modern architecture to heighten its narrative impact. The movie strategically chose iconic locations such as Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay to infuse the storyline with a layer of contemporary sophistication. These architectural wonders served as more than mere backdrops; they seamlessly merged with the plot’s technological intrigue, creating a compelling visual dichotomy between state-of-the-art design and the depths of the cybercriminal underworld. Against Singapore’s dynamic urban landscape, the juxtaposition of cutting-edge technology and the movie’s cyber-driven plot deepened the film’s tension, adding layers of complexity to the characters’ pursuit. The city’s role as a thriving center of innovation resonated with the film’s theme, emphasizing its status as a global hub for technology and advancement. The movie capitalized on the city’s fusion of modernity and tradition, using it as a canvas to paint a story that resonates with both local and international audiences.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016):

In this sequel to the much-admired martial arts film, the cinematic journey leads to a mesmerizing sequence set within the enchanting realm of Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay. This juxtaposition takes on a life of its own as dynamic martial arts unfold against the lush greenery and futuristic Supertrees that have become iconic of the city’s landscape. The fusion of the film’s kinetic action with the natural setting forms a captivating symphony, where nature and modernity dance in harmony. The carefully choreographed scene melds seamlessly with the contemporary backdrop, adding depth to the narrative and accentuating the film’s essence. Through this visual spectacle, the film not only delivers on its action-packed promises but also engages in a dialogue with the city’s essence. The Korean film industry is having somewhat of a love affair with science fiction in the 2020’s, a genre which had remained largely ignored since the Korean Wave era of the early 2000’s. In the past 3 years we’ve had dystopian visions of the future presented in the likes of Peninsula and Time to Hunt, colourful space adventures with Space Sweepers, and explorations of cyborgs with artificial intelligence in Jung_E. Thanks to the success of 2021’s Squid Game, the amount of money Netflix has been willing to throw in Korea’s direction has even seen the emergence of sci-fi K-drama’s like Black Knight and The Silent Sea. It’s the latter’s mission to the moon plot that’s used as the same jumping off point for the countries latest big screen outing, which sees visual effects studio Dexter founder Kim Yong-hwa returning to the director’s chair for the appropriately titled The Moon.

It’s the first time for Yong-hwa to return to directing since helming the 2 Along With the Gods movies with 2017’s The Two Worlds and 2018’s The Last 49 Days, productions that were considered landmark moments in showing off Korea’s special effects capabilities, and saw a further 2 immediately green lit. However 5 years later there’s still no sign of the third and fourth instalments, and seeing Yong-hwa back at the helm of another special effects heavy spectacle is perhaps a sign that we shouldn’t hold our breath. Also penning the script, The Moon sees him re-team Continue reading

Master and the Kid (1978) Review

"Shaolin Master and the Kid" Theatrical Poster

“Shaolin Master and the Kid” Theatrical Poster

AKA Shaolin Master and the Kid
Director: Lin Fu Ti
Cast: Yueh Hua, Man Kong Lung, Violet Pan Yingzi, Philip Ko Fei, Chan Sing, Weng Hsiao Hu, Ho Wai Hung, Shaw Luo Hui, Ngok Yeung, Hu Chin, Leung Kar Yan
Running Time: 91 min.

By Martin Sandison

Lone Wolf and Cub remains one of the most well-regarded comic books and film series to come from Japan. My own love for the first film in the series, Sword of Vengeance, is documented here on City on Fire. Something I didn’t know for a good while was that the series inspired a Taiwanese kung fu film from the classic era. As soon as I knew this I sought the movie out, not sure if justice would be done. Boy, was I not disappointed. Shaolin Master and the Kid has all of the elements of great Taiwanese fu, like strong visuals, a sense of the surreal and imaginatively staged action. There’s something a little different in there; some kind of magic that permeates the atmosphere, and allows the production to transcend being a mere homage.

Nan Kong Sao (Yueh Hua) is a Government law officer whose family is murdered when he brings a criminal to justice. He sets off to find the killers with his young nephew, encountering assassins each step of the way.

The opening of Shaolin Master and the Kid is clumsy, and throws information at the viewer until the relatively generic narrative of the film begins. It’s a far cry from the simple brilliance in story design of the Lone Wolf and Cub series, but then again Taiwanese kung fu Continue reading

9 Hemp Facts That Will Definitely Surprise You

The benefits of hemp are limitless, and people are starting to take notice.

With more and more states in America legalizing the use of hemp, these facts should not come as a surprise. But as a passionate hemp enthusiast, you should always be expanding your knowledge on the subject.

What is hemp, and what are some hemp facts you need to know? Let’s dive in.

1. Industrial Versatility

Hemp is an incredibly versatile crop and is often overlooked for its potential applications. Hemp fibers are five times stronger and more durable than cotton fibers. This makes hemp an excellent choice for:

  • carpets
  • textiles
  • paper

All of these products require resistance to wear and tear. Hemp is also an ideal choice for cosmetics and health supplements. It is also an excellent soil conditioner, absorbing heavy metals, toxins, and fertilizers that would otherwise remain in the soil.

The hemp hurd, or inner woody core, is a great source of cellulose for the production of biodegradable plastics, composites, and insulation products. Finally, hemp is a renewable resource that can be grown in a variety of climates, making it an ideal choice for countries looking to create more sustainable practices.

2. Rapid Growth

Hemp is known to have many benefits, and its rapid growth rate is one of the most attractive attributes that makes it stand out from other plants. Through photosynthesis, hemp can produce higher yields in a shorter period of time than any other commercially viable crop.

Hemp achieves rapid growth in just 80-120 days and can get up to 15 feet tall in ideal conditions. This is an especially remarkable feat since hemp only requires minimal fertilizer and can even thrive in nutrient-deficient soils.

3. Nutritional Value

Hemp protein contains all nine essential amino acids and is considered a complete protein. This makes it a great choice for plant-based diets. Hemp seeds also contain a good source of healthy fats, including omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.

One ounce of hemp seeds contains about 3.3g of protein, 7.9g of carbs, and 2.8g of dietary fiber. Furthermore, hemp seeds also contain essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin E, B vitamins, and zinc.

Hemp contains impressive amounts of antioxidants, which can help reduce inflammation and protect against cell damage. Overall, it is clear that hemp has a surprisingly high nutritional value!

4. Soil Remediation

Hemp is well known as a versatile crop, but what many may not think of is its ability to help remediate soil. Hemp can help absorb contaminants in soil, preventing them from entering water tables and becoming a human health hazard. Hemp can also absorb and remove heavy metals without becoming contaminated in the process.

Its deep roots also help loosen hard-packed soils, allowing other plants, trees, and foliage a better chance of success. Hemp can also pull harmful substances out of the soil, such as E. coli, arsenic, and lead.

This is done with so-called phytoremediation, using hemp to absorb and transform soil particles and chemicals into a less hazardous form.

5. Legalization

Hemp is an agricultural crop that is legal in some countries across the globe and is being increasingly viewed through a different lens. The legal status of cannabis and hemp varies widely around the world and within different jurisdictions.

In many places, cannabis is classified as a controlled substance due to its psychoactive properties and potential for abuse. Hemp, with its low THC content, has been legalized for various industrial and commercial purposes in some regions, especially for products like textiles, food, cosmetics, and CBD supplements.

6. Environmental Benefits

For starters, hemp has an impressive ability to regenerate itself in as few as four months! Additionally, hemp can grow in almost any environment, requires minimal processing, and has a massive output. This makes it an excellent resource.

Furthermore, hemp is a carbon-negative crop, meaning that it not only absorbs incredibly more carbon dioxide than it emits but also improves soil health and microclimate. Lastly, hemp can be used to make bioplastics, an eco-friendly alternative to conventional plastics.

7. Clothing and Fashion

Hemp has been used in the clothing and fashion industry. What’s perhaps most surprising, however, is that when properly treated, hemp fabric can be just as soft, comfortable, and durable as any other fabric.

Hemp clothing is also known to be highly absorbent and wick away moisture quickly. Additionally, hemp clothing can be naturally treated to resist fading, shrinking, mildew, and even ultraviolet rays – qualities that not all fabrics can boast.

8. Biofuel Potential

Hemp can be used to create a variety of biofuels, including biodiesel, ethanol, and methane. Hemp biodiesel is an incredibly efficient combustion fuel and has many advantages over traditional petroleum diesel. It can be used in any diesel engine and may even reduce engine wear.

Additionally, hemp fuel reduces certain greenhouse gas emissions (up to 85%) when compared to diesel. Ethanol produced from hemp can be used as a direct-injection fuel as well as a fuel additive. Finally, hemp can produce methane gas, which can then be used for energy, like electricity and heat.

9. Potential for Sustainable Building

Fewer people know the potential for sustainable building with hemp. Hemp is one of the most sustainable building materials available because of its fast growth cycle, renewability, and low impact on the environment. Hemp can be used to make:

  • fiberboard
  • insulation
  • wall panels

It can also be used to create concrete-like blocks. Its insulating properties are highly effective and can save energy costs. Hemp is also free from toxic chemicals and is naturally pest-resistant, eliminating the need for pesticides.

In short, hemp is an incredibly versatile and sustainable material for building construction that can improve energy efficiency and sustainability. So if you want to maximize the full potential of hemp, look into reliable companies like 22nd Century Group that also look up to this sustainable product source.

Take Note of These Hemp Facts You Must Know

Hemp production has soared in recent years due to its sustainability. Hemp is now used in thousands of everyday products, and further advancements could shape hemp into a cornerstone of our modern society.

To learn more about the awe-inspiring potential of this sustainable crop aside from these hemp facts or facts about cannabis, explore hemp legalization efforts in your area and further your knowledge of hemp’s amazing properties.

Maniac Driver (2020) Review

"Maniac Driver" Theatrical Poster

“Maniac Driver” Theatrical Poster

Director: Kurando Mitsutake
Cast: Tomoki Kimura, Iori Kogawa, Yohta Kawase, Ayumi Kimito, Keisaku Kimura, Ai Sayama
Running Time: 75 min.

By Paul Bramhall

As a director Kurando Mitsutake has proven to be a talent whose work consistently defies expectations.  Not entirely dissimilar to Quentin Tarantino, his movies feel steeped in the influence of 70’s cinema, littered with homages and narratives that feel new yet familiar at the same time. The biggest difference between Tarantino and Mitsutake though, is that the latter’s productions are distilled through a lens of pure exploitation, topped off with a distinctly Japanese twist. Comparatively Mitsutake’s modest budgets may pale when placed next to Tarantino’s Hollywood clout, but what can’t be denied is he’s created some of the most entertaining slices of gonzo cinema over the last decade. From the self-starring Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf, to the madness of Gun Woman, and most recently the self-explanatory Karate Kill.

When I interviewed Mitsutake in 2017 and asked what he thought his next feature would be, he replied he thought it’d “be either my first full-on horror movie, or a hardboiled actioner.” He didn’t let on, but at the time he was already in talks to direct a couple of big budget Japanese productions that would have put him on the mainstream radar, one (in his own words from an interview in 2021) a “hard-boiled Film Noir”, and the other an action flick. Ultimately though both would get stuck in development hell, and after 4 years, in 2020 he decided to let them go. Eager to get back into the director’s chair, the offer to direct a Pink Eiga production may have seemed like a world away from the budgets he’d hoped to be working with, but after the company behind it agreed he could make it a horror, he came onboard and Maniac Driver was born. Kill Shot (2023) Review

"Kill Shot" Theatrical Poster

“Kill Shot” Theatrical Poster

Director: Ari Novak
Cast: Rib Hillis, Rachel Cook, Bobby Maximus, Mara O’hara, Mark Murphy, Xian Mikol, Joe Cebula
Running Time: 94 min.

By Henry McKeand

Kill Shot. Now there’s an unoriginal title. In fact, when I was asked to review Ari Novak’s upcoming action thriller, I had to check to make sure I hadn’t already seen it. The cover, featuring generically attractive actors dressed up like special forces operatives, didn’t do a ton to help distinguish it from the dozens of other similarly titled movies about ex-Navy Seal badasses. Surprisingly, Kill Shot does actually find a way to stand apart from its contemporaries:

It’s uniquely horrible, flying in far below the already-low bar set by recent direct-to-streaming action releases. This is a shame, because it has a solid concept and even some fun narrative ideas in its last act. Sadly, local-car-dealership-level acting and sloppy direction keep it from ever rising above being a Z-Grade time waster.

The first few minutes suggest a more interesting film. After the opening text screen educates you on the amount of money being made in Afghanistan’s drug trade, you’re treated to an opening scene in which a young Afghani girl walks through miles of snow to deliver a briefcase of money to a group of gunmen in an armored truck. The wide lens outdoor photography of her stepping Continue reading

Chapter 4.Advantages of dump Truck

1.What is a dump truck?

Dump truck are used to move or transport materials such as dirt, sand, rocks, gravel, garbage or crushed stone. It is the safest and fastest method of transporting loose material from the site and is especially important in the early stages of a project as the ground is being prepared for work to begin. Before the project could proceed, a large amount of damaged material needed to be removed before work could continue. A powerful dump truck is essential if not for the loose material on site that could be problematic and pose a potential hazard to anyone on site. There are many different types in use every day, and the following are some of the most common.

2.What are the types of dump trucks?

①Standard Dump Trucks

These trailers have a single hydraulic cylinder or dual-cylinder system to lift the trailer bed for dumping cargo. They are commonly used for general-purpose hauling.

②Semi-Dump Trucks

These trailers are attached to a semi-truck or tractor unit and have a hydraulic mechanism to lift the trailer bed. They are commonly used for heavy-duty hauling and are more stable during tipping.

③Side Dump Trucks:

These trailers have a hydraulic system that allows them to unload cargo from the side. They are commonly used for transporting loose bulk materials like sand, gravel, and grain.

④Dump Trucks and Trailer Combination

This is a combination of a tipper truck and a trailer attached at the rear. The truck provides the power for tipping, and the trailer increases the overall capacity. They are used for heavy-duty hauling in construction, mining, and agricultural industries.

⑤Articulated Dump Trucks

These trailers have multiple sections hinged together, allowing for increased maneuverability. They are commonly used in tight spaces and on construction sites.

⑥Bottom Dump Trucks

These trailers have a unique design where the cargo is unloaded from the bottom of the trailer, typically through a sliding gate or conveyor belt. They are commonly used for hauling and unloading materials like coal, sand, and gravel.

⑦Ejector Trailer

These trailers have a moving floor or ejector blade mechanism that allows for easy unloading of cargo. They are commonly used for hauling materials like agricultural produce, waste, and recycling.

⑧Multi-axle Dump Trucks

These trailers have multiple axles to distribute the weight of the cargo and improve stability. They are commonly used for hauling heavy loads over long distances.

3.What are the common dump truck compartments?

3.1.U-shaped carriage

Urban dump trucks are an indispensable means of transportation for urban engineering construction. Because muck trucks drive on urban roads all year round, ordinary cars often leak and spill along the way, and then U-shaped dump cars are developed.

Because the shape of the U-shaped carriage is smooth and there are no exposed reinforcing ribs, it is not easy to accumulate soil and hang mud during loading and driving. The volume of the compartment is also smaller than that of ordinary square compartments, which further strengthens the control over the carrying capacity of urban muck trucks.

The U-shaped curved surface at the bottom of the carriage can prevent the hard collision between stones and the floor of the carriage. The U-shaped carriage has fewer dead corners, which can prevent sand and gravel from getting stuck in corners, and can be unloaded relatively cleanly when unloading.

3.2.Ordinary rectangular compartment

With a boxy shape, the outside of the carriage is covered with reinforcing ribs. Because the floor is almost flat, the loading volume is larger than that of a U-shaped carriage. Because the railing and the floor are not integrated, it is more likely to expand the railing of the car when doing some engineering swearing without strengthening the side columns.

But its functionality is more powerful than U-shaped carriages, because ordinary rectangular carriages can not only carry sand, gravel and mining, but also carry some goods that can be loaded in ordinary railing carriages, which has great scalability. Therefore, it is favored by some road transport dump truck owners.

4.Advantages of dump Truck

  • Efficient Hauling: Dump trucks have large capacities and can transport significant amounts of material in a single trip. This helps in reducing the number of trips required for hauling, thereby improving efficiency and productivity.
  • Versatile: Dump trucks are versatile and can be used for various purposes such as transporting construction materials, agricultural produce, waste, and other bulk materials. They can also be used in off-road conditions and on rough terrain.
  • Quick Unloading: Dump trucks feature hydraulic systems that allow for easy and quick unloading of cargo. This saves time during the unloading process and helps in maintaining a continuous workflow.
  • Increased Safety: Dump trucks are designed with safety features to ensure the protection of both the driver and the cargo. They have sturdy frames, proper load distribution, and braking systems to handle heavy loads and uneven terrain.
  • Cost-Effective: Dump trucks offer cost advantages by reducing labor costs and increasing efficiency. Their large capacity and efficient unloading mechanisms minimize the need for manual labor and shorten the overall time required for transporting materials.
  • Enhanced Stability: Dump trucks are built with a low center of gravity, which provides stability, even when carrying heavy loads and operating on uneven surfaces. This reduces the risk of accidents and overturning.
  • Customizable: Dump trucks can be customized to meet specific requirements and applications. They can be equipped with additional features like tarp systems, sideboards, and specialized bodies to handle specific types of cargo and improve overall functionality.
  • Durability: Dump trucks are built to withstand heavy-duty use and demanding conditions. They are constructed with robust materials and components, ensuring longevity and reliability even in rugged environments.

Can I Wear Prescription Glasses While Practicing Martial Arts?

If you enjoy taking part in martial arts and happen to wear corrective glasses, you may be faced with a dilemma. You need your specs to see clearly, but the nature of your sport means that there’s a high risk of them falling from your face or getting damaged. There are a few options to solve this problem: sports glasses that can be fitted with prescription lenses and that are robust and lightweight are the choice of many. And there are other options on the table, too.

Wearing Glasses During Warm-Up

In general, it should be fine to wear glasses during the warm-up part of your martial arts session if it doesn’t involve any element of sparring. This stage can often be completed at a participant’s own pace, meaning you can pause to adjust your spectacles if needed.

The Challenges of Wearing Glasses While Sparring

If you need to wear glasses, there’s no reason why you can’t try wearing them to your sparring sessions to see how you get on. However, it may be helpful to keep in mind some of the common challenges facing spectacle-wearers during their martial arts sessions.

The most frequent issue you’re likely to encounter is your glasses moving about on your face or even sliding off your nose – the sheer physicality of martial arts and the ways in which you’re required to move your body can make it nearly impossible for your glasses to stay in place. Lenses fogging up as you exert during the session is also a common issue, which can obviously have a major impact on your vision – and, therefore, your ability to overcome your opponent.

Finally, there’s the risk of your spectacles being damaged: snapped frames or cracked lenses are a real – and costly – possibility.

Hacks to Keep Your Glasses in Place During Martial Arts Training

There are some steps you can take to keep your glasses from sliding (or flying!) off during your training. You could consider fitting a sports strap to your regular spectacles to keep them securely on your face or try silicone ear hooks. The latter attaches to the arms of your glasses to help your specs stay on your face. This option tends to be more comfortable than a sports strap, but some users find them not quite as robust.

Stick-on nose pads are an inexpensive solution, although they’ll need changing very regularly to remain effective. They do exactly as their name suggests: stick to the inner frame of your specs to help prevent them from slipping down your nose.

Sports Glasses and Goggles

Prescription sports goggles are a great choice for martial arts training and bouts – the strap provides the most secure fit possible, and a range of styles are available so you can choose the most comfortable option. As well as providing clear vision, sports goggles are a great way to protect the eyes during your martial arts sessions – and their robustness means that they can withstand even the most arduous of matches. Even those with perfect vision may choose to wear clear glasses in goggle styles to help prevent the occurrence of eye injuries.

Look for sports glasses that are lightweight and with good airflow to prevent fogging and provide excellent peripheral vision. Some options allow for interchangeable lenses, which may be particularly useful if you also play outdoor sports, as you can switch your ‘regular’ lenses out for ones that are polarized as needed.

How About Contact Lenses?

Contact lenses could be worth considering as an alternative to wearing sports goggles or glasses while sparring or competing in martial arts. Contacts totally negate the need to worry about glasses getting damaged or in the way of your training, and there are no arms and frames to get in the way of a clear line of vision.

There is a small risk that if a blow lands on the face, a contact lens may be knocked out. If you require expensive, non-disposable lenses, this needs careful thinking; however, if your contacts are disposable options, this is likely to be a risk worth taking.

Finding the Perfect Eyewear Option for Martial Artists

If you enjoy practicing martial arts but need to wear corrective lenses, there are a number of options available to you, from prescription sports glasses to contact lenses to budget-friendly nose pads. Ultimately, base your choice on your budget, style, and personal preferences to get the solution that’ll perfectly suit your needs so that all you need to concentrate on is winning your next bout.
