Legendary action star Steven Seagal (Above of the Law, Attrition) is back! And he’s teaming up with Ron Smoorenburg (Triple Threat), Michel Qissi (Kickboxer), Michael Paré (Streets of Fire) and David Kurzhal (Bloodstorm, The Last Kumite), who is perhaps better known as Viking Samurai.

The upcoming martial arts action film is titled Order of the Dragon, which is a collaboration with the esteemed German labels Retro Gold 63 and Shamrock Media and Dream Team Pictures.

Directed by Vjekoslav Katusin (Wrongful Death), Order of the Dragon is written by Alex ‘The White Shark’ Pankine (A Man Worth Killing), Jean Rises (XXX Darknet: Red Lips) and Miroslav Trcak (Wrongful Death 2: Bloodlines).

The film also stars Jean-Marie Paris (A Man Worth Killing), Mark Stas (Borrowed Time), Dee Yoon (The Forbidden City), Alona Hertha (Wrongful Death) and the director himself, Vjekoslav Katusin (Unbound Evil).

Action choreography duties are handled by Andy Long Nguyen (Luc Van Tien: Tuyet Dinh Kungfu, Sanak, Accident Man: Hitman’s Holiday), a former member of the legendary Jackie Chan Stunt Team; as well as Dong Hyun Yoon, whose choreography and stunt credits include 2018’s The Hitman Agency and 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections.

“I truly believe that Order of the Dragon will create a significant impact in the film industry. Together, we aim to receive the distinctive style of the 80s and 90s, bringing back the action and flair that defined those memorable years”, director Vjekoslav Katusin posted (via IG).

In addition to Order of the Dragon, a sequel titled Order of the Dragon II: Release of the Dragon, has just been announced by Retro Gold 63. On their FB, the label wrote: “Ron Smoorenburg, Andy Long and Mark Stas will be returning, and negotiations are still ongoing with the other cast members. Martial arts fans are in for a big surprise.”

A big surprise? Who knows, maybe they’re trying to hitch JCVD for the next one?

Order of the Dragon is currently being prepped for a soon-to-be-announced date, but not without some controversy:

On March 25, 2026, Retro Gold 63 posted the following (paraphrased/shortened): The producers of Order of the Dragon have fired Dream Team Pictures and Vjekoslav Katusin for contract breaches, claiming he is unlawfully withholding the film and attempted to extort them. They say Katusin shot unauthorized scenes, blocked composer David Michael Frank from finishing the score, removed real producers from IMDb, and coerced cast members into promotions. When the producers tried to retrieve the material in Croatia, they were allegedly blocked and filmed against their will. The film’s rights are held by Filmworkers GmbH, Retro Gold 63 UG, and Shamrock Media, who are taking legal action to recover the film and prevent illegal release.

Not sure about you guys, but looks like we’re heading into Superman II/Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut with this one.

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more. Until then, we leave you with some visuals from the film:

Has this project actually started filming? Is it in production? Pre-production? It’s difficult for me to imagine Seagal ever making a movie again, particularly anywhere near Hollywood (or even the USA); my guess would be that if this movie does get made Seagal’s role will amount to a glorified cameo appearance.

From what I’ve seen (and heard), it’s definitely in motion/pre-production (the guys behind it know how to get a film off the ground). Retro Gold has claimed their involvement. Given Seagal’s track record, your guess is solid that’ll be more of a “featuring” role than a starring one. Hope we’re wrong. I always root for guys like JCVD and Seagal. In their prime, their movies were ‘life changing’ for a bunch of popcorn action flick.

All of Steven’s films go straight to video. I’m not excited.

If everything is handed to Steven on a golden/silver platter then it’s extremely possible that he might take the role with perfect steak done just right so everyone’s gonna hold their breath for him to approach this very special role I would hope so…..

Fascinating article (I admit it, I only read a few lines)…

Van Damme was, is and always will be a joke(r).

  11. American Ninja Man says:

Probably cast him as a police captain, this way he has an excuse to just sit in a chair and grimace. Provided they have a budget for a steel re-enforced chair.

The garbage team assemble. Thats what the cast looks. Z listers has-beens.

  15. Not a single remark about Ron Smoorenburg? Let me be the first. I don’t know why they keep casting him. He might be adequate as a martial artist, but so far, he has been boring in the few roles he had. He can’t act. But OK. Many martial artists can’t. Then again, he is not even amusing. For 90 percent of the time, he has the same expression. He also keeps ranting about Jackie Chan and how he was treated. Completely overlooking the fact that, thanks to him, he has a career in the film industry in the first place.
BTW, if you ask me, he couldn’t deliver on what was asked of him, due to not understanding how Hong Kong filmmaking works. I am not surprised to see him end up with Seagal. They are perfect for each other.

    • Andrew Hernandez says:

Way back when, I was a big Ron Smoorenberg supporter. I think he could have been up there with the likes of Scott Adkins and Michael Jai White if he didn’t have such a huge ego and disrespectful attitude.

I felt bad for him when he had a hard time with Who Am I. It was his first film and he was already going from zero to one hundred while getting a crash course in action film making. Despite being doubled sometimes, his work was very good and his super kicking was a sight to behold.

He was also good in Fighting Fish, where he got to gain more experience. Subsequently, his onscreen work began to diminish as he was often relegated to henchmen roles. He had a decent fight with Tony Ja in Triple Threat, but when Mike Leeder forgot to tag him in a social media post about the movie, Smoorenberg threatened him and ruined their working relationship.

He had a pretty good fight scene n Bangkok Dog and a decent fight scene in the unofficial Johnny Cage vs Rambo even though it made zero sense. But it’s hard to like the guy when he’s constantly acting like the most persecuted action star in history and is obsessed with conspiracy theories.

I get the feeling that Order of the Dragon is more of a showcase for him while Steven Seagal is the movie’s promotional mascot. It’s too bad that he feels the need to be associated with a scumbag like Seagal, but it’s hard to say no to a leading role.
