RELEASE DATE: December 12, 2023

On December 12, 2023, Kino Lorber will be releasing a 4K UHD + Blu-ray release for John Woo’s Face/Off, a 1997 action thriller stars John Travolta (Broken Arrow) and Nicolas Cage (Prisoners of the Ghostland). The film will be featured with a New 4K Restoration and Dolby/Vision HDR Grade.

Obsessed with bringing terrorist Castor Troy (Cage) to justice, FBI agent Sean Archer (Travolta) tracks down Troy, who has boarded a plane in Los Angeles. After the plane crashes and Troy is severely injured, possibly dead, Archer undergoes surgery to remove his face and replace it with Troy’s. As Archer tries to use his disguise to elicit information about a bomb from Troy’s brother, Troy awakes from a coma and forces the doctor who performed the surgery to give him Archer’s face.

Along with 1993’s Hard Target, Face/Off is considered one of Woo’s finest Hollywood productions.

Face/Off also stars Joan Allen (The Bourne Supremacy), Alessandro Nivola (Goal!), Dominique Swain (Lolita) and Gina Gershon (Bound).

Look for it on December 12, 2023 from Kino Lorber.

  1. Brian Pimlico says:

Quite so; the only half decent film John Woo made in Hollywood besides Hard Target. I wonder if this version will be uncut? I remember some of the gunfights looking as if they’d been censored a tad.

  2. DoctorFromGallifrey says:

This film is a lot of fun, kind of silly, but fun & I’ll definitely be picking it up. KL did a good job on The Night Stalker, The Night Strangler, & Kolchak: The Night Stalker The complete series 2k transfer looking forward to checking out a 4k release from them

  3. Aerosniff Someglue says:

    Cool.

But I’d prefer (and I am not kidding) right now a restoration of Windtalkers’ Director’s cut on Blu-Ray. I’ve loved that movie since the European premiere in 2002. I think it’s not a WWII flick, it’s a John Woo WWII flick and I like that.

  4. Andrew Hernandez says:

I wish the extra action footage would be re-edited into the film. Especially the tribute to A Better Tomorrow 2, where one of Troy’s friends and a SWAT officer shoot each other in the same fashion as Chow Yun-Fat and Ming Yan Lung.

Even after watching it in the theatre for the first time, I could tell that part was cut for violence.

  5. Mr. Chris Rasdale says:

A great Film with both Travolta and Cage at the top of their game!
