Actress and former model Alice Hirose (Silent Tokyo), best known for her work in Japan’s mainstream dramas and lighthearted films, steps into a much grittier role as the lead of the upcoming actioner, Enju.
Directed by Shigeaki Kubo (High & Low franchise), Enju is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Ryohei Tsukimura (Flower of the Desert).
The story follows a group of armed terrorists who take over a remote campsite, holding a group of students hostage. What they don’t realize is that the students’ quiet assistant teacher (Hirose) is secretly a deadly assassin. When her kids’ lives are threatened, she drops her polite facade and takes on the entire group by herself.
🔥 Footnote: Martial arts choreography is handled by action veteran Yuji Shimomura (Crazy Samurai Musashi), whose impressive credits include 2000’s Versus, 2010’s Warrior’s Way and 2016’s Re:Born. Judging from the Teaser below, the action takes an obvious page from John Wick’s blend of gunplay and fluid martial arts. If that’s your kind of thing, you should be in good hands.
