Chris Hemsworth, move over! Don Lee, Lisa and Lee Jin-wook’s ‘Extraction’ spin-off ‘Tygo’ enters post-production

Ma Dong-seok, aka Don Lee (Derailed, Roundup: Punishment), takes the lead in Extraction: Tygo (aka Tygo), a spin-off of Netflix’s hit action franchise Extraction. The franchise kicked off with 2020’s Extraction and 2023’s Extraction 2, with a third installment currently in production.

Also starring is Thai pop star Lisa (Pranpriya Manobal or Lalisa Manobal), a member of the South Korean girl group Blackpink. Extraction: Tygo will mark her first acting appearance since Season 3 of the HBO hit series, The White Lotus.

The film follows Tygo (Ma Dong-Seok), a war orphan who learned early on that survival comes first. Now a seasoned mercenary, he leads a tight-knit team that includes Ria (Lisa), whom he has cared for like family since she was a child. They’ve survived more than their fair share of dangerous missions together, but everything changes when Ria is kidnapped by the criminal organization led by Arman Choi (Lee Jin-wook). With her life hanging in the balance, Tygo launches a desperate rescue mission, willing to risk everything to bring her home..

Directing Extraction Tygo is Lee Sang-yong, who is perhaps best known for 2022’s The Roundup and 2023’s The Roundup: No Way Out. Penning the film is actor/screenwriter Cha Woo-jin, who wrote The Roundup: No Way Out.

The film also stars Alex O’Loughlin (White Rush), Choi Dae-hoon (Beyond Evil), Sullivan Stapleton (300: Rise of an Empire), Robert Maaser (Ballerina), Ryeoun (Weak Hero Class 1), Maxim Baldry (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Orli Shuka (All the Old Knives) and Allan Kneefel (Blade Runner 2099).

Fight choreography is handled by Iko Uwais’ (The Raid) own Uwais Team (Headshot), so audiences shouldn’t be let down in the action department).

Extraction Tygo is one of the many films being produced by Asia Media Alliance Group and Jakarta-based Nation Pictures, the companies behind the upcoming The Man from Nowhere remake and Pendekar: Warrior, as reported by Variety.

The original two Extraction films were directed by Sam Hargrave (Unlucky Stars) and starred Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Golshifteh Farahani (Body of Lies).

🔥 Footnote: For those wondering how Extraction: Tygo connects to the franchise as a spin-off, we may finally get our answer, as Don Lee is set to appear in Extraction 3.

Extraction Tygo is officially in post-production, so we expect some official teasers real soon! For now, we leave you with the Trailers to the originals, as well as the Trailer for The Roundup: No Way Out:

  1. Callum says:

I know it’s supposedly a spin off in name and theme only but fingers crossed they use it as a set up (like a Chris Hemsworth post credits apperance) for a potential 3rd film in which we get them both tearing it up in South Korea.

  2. Typo says:

    Poor choices of career.

From South Korean big movie star to Meatflix whatever.

    But it must pay well.

    • CJ says:

Oh, I’m sure they pay well. I don’t think there is much financial oversight over there at all, the way they throw money around.

I still want to know how David Fincher’s relatively low-key THE KILLER cost $175 million. I know he does a million takes, but come on!

  3. CJ says:

Those EXTRACTION movies are amazingly entertaining.

If they can bring that level of production and inventiveness to this then it will be well worth a watch.

  4. Andrew Hernandez says:

Ma dong-seok choreographed by Iko Uwais and his team? That would be amazing! The only thing better than that is if Iko had a role in the movie, and there was a big ass fight scene with the two of them.

    Who cares about this garbage.

Give us Extraction 3 already with Chris Hemsworth.
