Kingdom | Blu-ray & DVD (Funimation)

On February 4th, 2020, Funimation is releasing Kingdom on Blu-ray & DVD. his upcoming period martial arts film is a Live-action adaptation of the manga series written and illustrated by Yasuhisa Hara.
From director Shinsuke Sato (Gantz) comes Kingdom, which follows a young boy (Kento Yamazaki, Death Note) who dreams of becoming the greatest general of the Qin Kingdom.
The film also stars Ryo Yoshizawa (Lost Days), Masami Nagasawa (Gintama), Kanna Hashimoto (Gintama 2), Kanata Hongo (Attack on Titan), Shinnosuke Mitsushima (Third Murder), Masahiro Takashima (Lady Maiko), Jun Kaname (Casshern) and Takao Osawa (Goemon).

That’s the song they went with? Doesn’t match the visuals and completely kills the experience.
I was thinking the same and I haven’t even seen the film yet.
Tak Sakaguchi is also in this as a cool ass sword weilding villain, it wears its influences on its sleeve but its fun

you only see him briefly in the trailer, just was watching it yesterday and Tak’s there and a bunch of Japanese stunt guys I know with Yuji Shinomura handling the action
I was lucky enough to catch a showing of Kingdom, and it was simply a fun time!
It’s coincidentally similar to Zhang Yimou’s Shadow since it also deals with a king and his double. (Except everything is colorful and faster paced.) Not being familiar with the source material, I was intrigued that it had a lot to do with ancient Chinese history but from a Japanese perspective.
Star, Kento Yamazaki was clearly channeling Toshiro Mifune with his animalistic performance, and it was nice to see that inspiration flowing through him. The plot moves at a good pace, and the film is intriguing to look at with its camerawork and set design. The film makers really wanted to show off what they created.
Yuji Shimomura’s action scenes were a great combination of flashiness but more grounded than his Devil May Cry and Bayonetta outings. The cast were clearly enjoying themselves and all in all, Kingdom is a great way to close the summer movie season.
Got to see this in theaters. I expected more. I never watched the anime though. I was super annoyed at the typical slow Japanese film parts. A lot of scenes lingered way to long. Then there were flashback scenes that flashbacked to a scene that we just got done watching 2 minutes earlier.
