Offhand, I’d say my favorite revenge flick is I Saw the Devil. It just left an indelible impression on me.
Tough one. So many good revenge flicks.
I’d have to say Braveheart, I Saw The Devil, Chaser, Five Element Ninjas, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Mad Max. Tony Scott’s Revenge was actually pretty good (and very underrated) as well.
All the above films had the same thing in common: I hated the bad guys so much that I couldn’t wait the good guys to get their hands on ’em!
“Man on Fire” is most definitely one of my favorites.
Oldboy. Can anyone top that?
I was going to say The Punisher (2004), but now that I’ve come to my senses, so far I’m a fan of The Raid 2. Vengeance wasn’t the only plot point in the film as it brought a tremendous multilevel crime story to it, but watching Iko take on Cecep was the cream filling that hit the spot just right since the very top of the film. I couldn’t cheer loud enough in the room as everyone else was. Best movie experience by far, so far.
Michael Mann’s Thief…Very believeable, great soundtrack, pure 80’s badass cinema. If your from Chicago, you gotta see it.
Prisoners
‘heavenly creatures’ Taking a spin on revenge. It’s all how it is perceived in the mind.
My favorite revenge flick would be Old Boy, Braveheart, and Kill Bill vol 1&2.
Ok, to top Oldboy (2003, Park Chan-wook version), which is very good by the way, You have to go back to 1971’s Get Carter. Micheal Caine as Jack Carter, a Mob Enforcer, searching for his brother’s killer while eluding his own crew’s plans for revenge. Everything works in the film: story, characters, realistic settings, etc. The best scene has to be Caine, naked, forcing two former compatriots out of his room with a long double-barrelled shotgun and a woman outside seeing him and dropping her milk. WATCH IT. NOW.
Plus, the two major enemies in the film Carter vs. a character named Eric, actually had real antagonism between Caine and the actor playing Eric.
Favorite revenge film? That’s the majority of Asian cinema haha. I’ll say The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. Its your standard revenge plot that leads the main character to the temple, but wow the level he goes to for the sake of fighting back is intense. As everyone has said, fantastic training scenes, and the pay off at the end of the film feels good, in a calm monk sort of way.
Kill Bill for the crazy multikill kung fu madness
man on fire, denzel was great and can’t wait to see his current one, the ezualizer
The Crow. Something about the mix of rock ‘n roll, revenge and the supernatural made one kick-ass flick.
Conan the Barbarian. Why? Well, it’s arnold, duh! Other reasons – it’s excessively violent, arnie’s hot bod, a lovely soundtrack and every second of it is pure entertainment. Looking forward to Conan 3.
