We’ll soon be seeing cult martial arts star Michael Jai White (Triple Threat, Accident Man) in The Outlaw Johnny Black, the “spiritual sequel” to 2009’s Black Dynamite – think “Black Dynamite in the Old West”, or a move similar to when Richard Roundtree did the modern day blaxploitation film Shaft, then jumped into the period western, Charley-One-Eye.
Written and directed by White, The Outlaw Johnny Black centers on Johnny Black (White), who is hell-bent on avenging the death of his father. He vows to gun down Brett Clayton and becomes a wanted man in the process. He goes into hiding, posing as a preacher in a small mining town that’s been taken over by a notorious Land Baron.
The film also stars Anika Noni Rose (The Princess and the Frog), Erica Ash (We Have a Ghost), Byron Minns (Black Dynamite), Kym Whitley (Act Your Age) and Tony Baker (Cancel Court).
The Outlaw Johnny Black hits theaters on September 15, 2023 from Samuel Goldwyn Films. Don’t miss its New Trailer below:
Wow. I’m totally ok with this. I wonder if they’ll get Fred Williamson to join since this sounds similar to his older films, “Boss N****” and “The Legend of N***** Charlie.” (I’m not sure if I can even say the censored titles.)
It doesn’t look like this film will reach its goal which is a shame because nobody makes these kinds of films anymore. They need to find someone that will finance the film.

not really briliant as Black Dynamite, but still quite fun. i liked the tribute to Bud Spencer.
