Thanks to the smartphone, a new format has been on the rise for some time: the vertical format. This short-form, scripted video type – typically between one and two minutes per episode – is shot in an aspect ratio specifically for mobile phone viewing (it’s basically the opposite of widescreen).

The format is mostly known for dramas, hence the name “micro drama”, which is a style that blew up in China through platforms like TikTok. But now martial arts star Sunny Pang (Havoc, The Night Comes for Us, Headshot) is teaming up with writer/director Sam Loh (The Driver) to bring some hard-hitting action to the format with The Executioner.

The fight choreography is handled by Sunny Pang’s own Ronin Action (re: solve), a stunt/choreography group based in Singapore.

In addition to Pang, The Executioner features a mostly-Singaporean cast that includes Asher Su Chai Chong (Dreaming), Jaze Phua (Singafist), Paulyn-Grace Teo (The Driver), Terence Cao (The Challenger), Adele Wong (The Big Day), Vincent Ng (Deleted), as well as Thai internet celebrity FahFah.

A release date is pending. For now, check out a Teaser Trailer below!
