Later this year, 88 Films is releasing the 4K Ultra HD for Armour of God, a 1986 action-adventure directed by and starring Jackie Chan (The Shadow’s Edge). The disc will be presented in 4K from the original camera negative for the first time ever.
Regarded as “Hong Kong’s answer to Indiana Jones”, Armour of God centers on a fearless treasure hunter named Asian Hawk (Chan). Along with his sidekick/brother (Alan Tam, Hard Boiled 2), the two embark on a quest to recover mystical relics while battling a cult gang.
Armour of God is notoriously known as “the movie that nearly killed Jackie”. During the filming of the opening sequence, a scene called for Jackie to jump from a wall to a tree branch. In one of the takes, the branch broke, sending Jackie 5 metres to the ground, resulting in cracked skill with a piece of bone up into his brain (all of which can be seen in the film’s end-credit sequence). At the time, Armour of God was the highest-grossing film in Hong Kong.
The film also stars Lola Forner (Wheels on Meals), Rosamund Kwan Chi-Lam (Once Upon A Time in China III), Ken Boyle (A Better Tomorrow 2) and John Ladalski (The Chinese Stuntman).
Further details are pending, but 88 Films has already teased the artwork by Sean Longmore.
This title will soon be available at The Goodie Emporium, a U.S.-based online store that currently has many Import Shaw Brothers/Golden Harvest/martial arts DVD/Blu-ray movies in-stock – with New titles being added regularly!
