Raging Fire | Blu-ray (Well Go USA)

Today’s Deal on Fire is the Blu-ray for Raging Fire, one of the latest from martial arts superstar Donnie Yen (Big Brother) and co-star Nicholas Tse (As the Light Goes Out).

This film (read our review), also marks the final project of noted Hong Kong director, Benny Chan (Big Bullet, Who Am I?), who passed away during the tail end of the film’s production.

In Raging Fire, Shan (Yen) is a righteous cop who’s solved countless cases. One day, his past comes back to haunt him when his sting operation is attacked by a mysterious group of criminals led by Ngo (Tse), his former protégé. Ngo was once a talented cop who admired Shan. However, a terrible accident sent him to prison three years ago, transforming him into a furious man dead set on killing everyone who’s wronged him.

Raging Fire also stars Henry Prince Mak (Operation Red Sea), Jeana Ho (Special Female Force), Ben Lam (Flash Point) and Kang Yu (Ice Man: The Time Traveler).

“According to SD, Yen will play a former police inspector ”
    YES!
that is all i needed to hear.
    Back to Flashpoint/SPL style:)

and Benny Chen is a good damn director!
    love Invisible Target

glad to hear Nicolas Tse is in this, wtf happened to that guy man? i haven’t seen in much in movies. Last movie i saw him in was Shaolin

    • For me ‘Connected’, the movie Chan made after ‘Invisible Target’, was the last decent flick he made. Admittedly I haven’t seen ‘Shaolin’, but ‘City Under Siege’, ‘The White Storm’, ‘Call of Heroes’, and ‘Meow’ are all horribly misguided attempts at big budget entertainment.

Agreed it’ll be great to see Nicholas Tse back onscreen. In recent years he’s been focusing more on his culinary endeavors (which he got to highlight in 2017’s ‘Cook Up a Storm’), which included creating his own range of McDonalds burgers –

Shaolin was very good. Benny Chan of today is certainly different from his heyday, but I hope he gets that spark back. Maybe Donnie can pull his head out of his ass.

I hope Nic Tse does well too. Haven’t seen Heartfall Arises, but it’s gotten really mixed reviews.

It will be much better than Enter the fat dragon (not difficult).

“but ‘City Under Siege’, ‘The White Storm’, ‘Call of Heroes’, and ‘Meow’ are all horribly misguided attempts at big budget entertainment.”

OK, except for Call of heroes. And Shaolin is a very good underrated flick.

    • White Storm was a wonderful throwback to Heroic Bloodshed. If that is misguided then by all means more of those misguided titles. Besides I don’t understand why people like Shaolin so much. Am I the only one who wasn’t impressed with that one? I for one am excited for this title since it’s a return to old school Hong Kong which is something I personally can’t get enough of.

    excited for a trailer :O

    RIP Benny Chan.

I don’t comment much but this is far and away my most anticipated movie of the last few years. Donnie himself said this is his best modern action movie from his pov. We’ll see. He’s the only action star Hong Kong has left, since Wu Jing has gone where the money is, Phillip Ng is a nonstarter, and Nicolas Tse turned out to be a celeb chef instead Hong Kong action’s last hope. Septet’s trailer gives me fuzzy feelings but also tells me these directors are too old and tired to make anymore cool shit. Hell John Woo dropped out of his segment due to health problems. Probably don’t have much left in him. Because of this, every Hong Kong action film has become a special event for me.

Benny Chan has never been a great director, something between a minor auteur and a journeyman. His canon of crime actioners however, are so much fun, and he has a great sense of commercial style and pacing that appeals to a wide audience, owing much to Milkyway and 90s Hollywood. I love his familiar tropes: kidnappings, car bombs, silly mcguffins, the badass band of thieves ala Heat, the insecure goodie two-shoe good cops, and the camaraderie they always share. I’m still waiting for Big Bullet, my favorite Benny Chan movie, to hit blu-ray. Despite his early departure, I hope Raging Fire will still have his energetic touch.

    • JJ Bona says:

Interesting observations on those names you mentioned. I always thought Big Bullet was in the lines of those late 90s Milkway crime thrillers. I thought Benny captured the essence of “a peak Jackie Chan film” with Who Am I? And Gen X Cops (for the time) was as good as a “popcorn” action film can get. With all this said, I’m looking forward to his latest as well!

  7. Looks like Nic Tse is reviving his character from ‘The Viral Factor’!

  8. Andrew says:

    THIS LOOKS AWESOME !!!

  9. Andrew Hernandez says:

    Looks fantastic!

  10. Andrew Hernandez says:

It’ll be interesting to see if Raging Fire is a more bombastic version of Caught in Time. That movie really nailed it into the heads of audiences that Chinese police are the best in the world and that if you commit crimes in China, you’ll be shaved and executed in a barren desert.

There’s no doubt Nic Tse’s character will get his comeuppance, but I hope he’s well developed.

  11. Andrew says:

It’s literally the same trailer but ok, still very hyped for the film !

    • YM says:

Well on the bright side, less spoilers!

I wonder how much the trailer is reflective of the final movie. For a near 2 minute trailer, there’s actually not that much action and you can tell a lot of it comes from the same few scenes. I compared it to SPL and flashpoint’s original trailers and it definitely is lighter on the action. But we’ll see!

  12. Aerosniff Someglue says:

“since Wu Jing has gone where the money is”

The Ip Man with Yen aren’t “Hong Kong” movies (for what it means), at least not entirely.

Donnie went to “mainland” China too (well, Hong Kong is part of China) and to Hollywood (just for the art, there’s no money to be made in Hollywood).

Really not impressed with the trailer. But I’d love to be wrong!

  13. Trieu Do aka LoneWolf Ronin says:

I cant wait! Its been a while since ive seen Donnie Yen and Nicolas Tse together since Dragon Tiger Gate! Shame this will be Benny Chans last film due to cancer. But i hope this movie will scratch the action itch!

  14. Andrew says:

Let’s fucking go I am so excited for this and to hear Paul’s review on it, I am praying he likes it 🙁 the behind the scenes looks pretty dope, looks like we’re getting a baton vs knives rematch from SPL 1 and 2 in this :O

  15. YM says:

Gonna be honest didn’t watch this trailer as not to spoil myself. Gonna go dark until I watch it myself. Wonder when it hits theaters here in the west? Does Go USA usually take a long time to get them here?

  16. BuckyGunGun says:

    Nowhere in Florida……..well shit.

  17. Gagalagaille says:

Well Go USA should stop putting that kind of movies in like 50 thatres waiting for it to crash fast.

This should open in like 2000-2500 thatres, but since Hollywood studios boycott (inofficially of course) 99% of the movies that could make a little money there,…

Well Go USA should put all their money advertising their BDs, DVDs and VOD offers.

  18. Dave says:

I think I will try and get this release. The DVD and the Bluray looks great and awesome. Preserved with original Cantonese, Mandarin along with an english dub with Chinese and English subtitles. Donnie Yen’s Raging Fire looks very action packed so I will check this out.
