Cult director Uwe Boll (In the Name of the King, Rampage) is currently making headlines with Citizen Vigilante, which has become an unlikely viral sensation. The politically charged thriller follows a vigilante (Armie Hammer) who targets undocumented immigrants responsible for deadly crimes, a premise that reportedly led to the film being banned in Germany.

The ban drew the attention of Elon Musk, who shared the film online for free, helping it rack up more than 10.5 million views. After its streaming debut, Citizen Vigilante climbed to the No. 1 spot for digital purchases on both Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video. According to Boll, the film had earned around $600,000 as of June 30, 2026, against a reported production budget of $2 million.

Originally titled The Dark Knight, a name later changed after a cease and desist from Warner, Citizen Vigilante is being positioned as a comeback project for Armie Hammer, who stepped back from Hollywood following a series of sexual abuse allegations.

Citizen Vigilante also stars Costas Mandylor (Saw franchise), Jenny Paris (Order of the Dragon), Benjamin Schnau (A Working Man) and features fight choreography by martial arts sensation Mike Möller, who is perhaps best known for 2014’s One Million K(l)icks and 2017’s Ultimate Justice.

🔥 Hot Take: Uwe Boll has some duds in his filmography (he’s far from being “the worst director of all time”), but if you’ve seen any of the Rampage films – or even Assault on Wall Street – he has shown himself to be a capable action filmmaker.

  1. CJ says:

Uwe Boll’s new YouTube channel is quite entertaining. Especially when he unloads on crappy new movies.

  2. ToryK says:

Yeah, this isn’t gonna end the way either guy wants it to. Sorry, Uwe. I see you up there. But no.

  3. Makaveli says:

Is this a movie about cannibalism?

If you watch the doc series about his f*ked-up family you can see why he came out of it a little bit ‘off’.

His mother is also an insane religious zealot. There’s an amazing video of him interviewing her which may be the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever seen.

So because he became famous by being shit, we’re now supposed to defend him because he did like 3 or 4 okayish flicks? I saw only the first Rampage and Postal and … no. There are so many great indie-action and horror filmmakers, who could use the attention

There are, but many of them lack that all-out, anti-establishment, no-holds-barred filmmaking spirit that simply doesn’t care about playing by the rules.

      • squeesh says:

The fact is, Boll’s movies have been bashed for years, because, from what I’ve read about them, that aren’t that good, and never have been. Hammer only did this movie because he’s still persona non grata in Hollywood, and this was the only offer he got to do a lead in.

  5. Uwe is a helleuva action director. The Rampage trilogy , Assualt on Wall Street stuff. All top tier

    well, this sucked very hard.
90 minutes of plain racist shit, and there isn’t even any action.

    • Coonhater says:

      What’s “racist” about it exactly?

      • JJ Bona says:

I was watching this the other day, and I found myself wondering the same thing. =)

Just my opinion, but I think the race card gets played a little too quickly in a lot of situations these days. Not all of them, of course, but enough that it can take away from people who are genuinely victims of racial discrimination. And this is coming from an Asian who looks Latino.

That said, your “Coonhater” nickname is definitely racist.

        • Ska Martes says:

Does it have any classic lines like this one from London Has Fallen

Why don’t you boys pack up your shit and head back to Fuckheadistan.

You only need to go on the unitedkingdom subreddit to see that there is clearly a market for movies like Citizen Vigilante. Tommy Robinson and Nigel Fromage and others foaming at the mouth about Muslims destroying local culture and raping their way to citizenship are probably watching this movie with lube and a sock.

      • dakuan says:

don’t know, maybe ’cause it implies that all muslims are rapist cavemen?

        • Ibrahim Loves Movies says:

I didn’t see it that way, my brother. What I saw was an invididual going after people who committed crimes but never held accountable by the authorities.

I’m originally from the Middle East, and I went through the legal process to become an American citizen. I don’t commit crimes. My wife and I work hard, earn an honest living, and run a clothing business. Americans are very nice to us.

I will fully support someone like the individual that Armie portrayed. It is not a racist act. I hope you understand. Thank you.

          • dakuan says:

i strongly suspect you’re not form the middle east and you’re just trolling, but i’ll humor you.

are you saying you support the mass murdering of innocent families and law enforcers in the line of duty?

because most of citizen vigilante body count consists of SWAT guys who were trying to arrest him.

also, you agree that for muslims raping teenage girls is (i’m quoting almost literally) a family value they learn by reading the quran?

and that your own (if you are who you claim to be) archaic values are corrupting europe’s society and european white citizens who don’t shoot your kind in the face are basically a bunch of cucks?
            way to go, my brother.

            • Todd C says:

Another far lefty. I thought your side wanted to defund the police and claimed all cops were bad. Now you care about cop killing just because it’s in a movie that you don’t like? Make up your mind fool! Your side is losing because you lack common sense and any sense of direction. Why not open your doors and host an illegal alien? I know why, because you wont. I love visiting this website but the comments are full of virtue-signaling asswipes like yourself.

          • dakuan says:

shit, i should have said “kill count.”
just to be clear, armie didn’t have sex with the SWAT men XD

  7. Andrew Hernandez says:

IMDB’s review section for this movie is just as unreliable as their trivia section. Most of the positive reviews are by people who seem to love the film “sticking it to political correctness,” and not the quality of the movie itself. Kind of like with that school shooter movie, Run Hide Fight.

If someone wants to make a politically incorrect film, that’s fine, but you still have to have an interesting story and characters. Film makers should realize that if everything else about their movie is poorly done, no one’s going to give a shit about the message or intentions of the picture.

Uwe Boll has had an interesting career where is earlier films were poor, but as the years went on, he became a more competent director. But then his films went from being awful to boring. Although he has had a few decent pictures here and there.

  8. Scott Robinson says:

Mike Leeder doing an audio commentary?? After constantly virtue signaling over the allegations aganst Bey Logan, he is throwing his support behind a racist movie that stars Armie Hammer who allegedly rapes and eats women! You really can’t make this stuff up.
