“Manhunt” Japanese Theatrical Poster
Later this year, Toy Robot Video (a new sub-label of Arrow Video) will be releasing a Blu-ray for Manhunt. Directed by Junya Satō (Golgo 13), this 1976 thriller stars Ken Takakura (The Yakuza), Yoshio Harada (The Hunted) and Ryōko Nakano (Never Give Up).
Tokyo District Public Prosecutor Fuyuto Morioka (Takakura) suddenly finds himself accused of a crime he had nothing to do with and arrested right in the middle of a crowded Shinjuku street.
When a mistake in police procedure gives him an opening, Morioka makes a daring escape and sets out to track down the missing witnesses who could clear his name, all while the police close in behind him.
His journey turns into a wild cross country chase packed with danger and unexpected twists. Along the way, Morioka fights bears, falls in love, pilots a plane, breaks out of an asylum, stumbles across dead bodies, and narrowly escapes capture time and time again from the relentless Inspector Yamura (Harada). With the conspiracy tightening around him, Morioka must uncover the truth before the authorities finally catch up to him.
