Seized | DVD (Lionsgate)

RELEASE DATE: October 13, 2020

On October 13, Lionsgate is releasing Seized (aka Rizk) on DVD, Digital, and On Demand. The film sees martial arts star Scott Adkins re-teaming with action director Isaac Florentine (Close RangeUndisputed 2: Last Man Standing).

Joining Adkins for the fun is Mario Van Peebles, who is perhaps best known for directing 1991’s New Jack City and starring in the 1996 cult action flick, Solo (read our review).

Hiding out with his son Taylor on the Mexican coast, Nero (Adkins) hopes to put his violent Special Forces career behind him. But after Nero’s home is attacked and Taylor is abducted, the mysterious Mzamo (Mario Van Peebles, Heartbreak Ridge) orders Nero to slaughter the members of three rival crime syndicates. If he fails, Taylor will die. With bullets flying and bodies dropping, Nero must now complete his mission ― and find Mzamoʼs hideout, to exact his revenge.

  2. Mike Retter says:

Adkins is a nobody but Solo kind of rules!

    • Andrew Hernandez says:

      It’s unfortunate that you’re wrong! ;-P

    • I don’t think you could call someone that’s worked with the likes of Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Yuen Woo Ping, Tsui Hark, and Wu Jing “a nobody”.

In all seriousness though, for me it makes no sense to call Adkins a nobody while praising the talents of someone like Gary Daniels. The only real difference is that the internet is around in the Adkins era, and it wasn’t in the Daniels era. Had it, I’m not sure he’d ever have made it past small supporting parts in PM Entertainment flicks. Adkins is the real deal, just check him out in the likes of ‘The Debt Collector’, ‘Accident Man’, ‘Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning’, & the ‘Ninja’ flicks and tell me you’re not entertained!

      • Mike Retter says:

I just cant help myself but point out that Adkins is a nobody because of how much coverage he gets, despite having zero charisma.. Hes just mediocre as a screen presence and has no character. It doesn’t help that hes born into an era where martial arts cinema is mostly meaningless, in the sense that we cant trust the image quite like we used to in our time of digital trickery.. Quite hard to truly build a mythos around one-self in this era, thats for sure.

With Daniels, yes some of his acting is bad, hes no natural dramatist, but that in-itself is a joy to watch, I guess you could call that “camp” in a similar way to enjoying Chuck Norris and his performances. Theres something earnest about it. But apart from that his Lundgrenesque, almost mythical Greek God physical screen presence is undeniable. Daniels is such a star, he needed almost no acting talent.. It was all inevitable. But I reckon he worked on those acting-chops and lifted his game plenty by the time of pictures like White Tiger.. Adkins looks part of a TV-cop ensemble, the 3rd or 4th cop in that ensemble, probably a show that had two seasons max, but not an actual movie star OR B-movie star. He just disappears into the crowd. forgettable. Nothing really defines him, I close my eyes and nothing comes up.

    • Fish out of Water says:

Wow you seem to be commenting on every Adkins post and insulting him. Cityonfire is Asian / martial arts new site so you should expect them to cover stories about Adkins especially considering his output of the late. If you don’t like him then don’t read about him then.

I don’t agree with a lot of Cityonfire’s review of his films since his recent output of late have been mediocre to bad but to call him a nobody is stretching it. I’m sure Gary Daniels or whoever you like will get the same coverage if they have had the same level of output.

  3. Mike Retter says:

    Power to the Peebles!

  4. The Bothan Spy says:

Hmmm well if Adkins is a nobody and he’s headlining the movie and Van Peebles is behind him in the cast, that doesn’t sound very good for Peebles does it?

  5. mike leeder says:

Can never go wrong with the pairing of Adkins & Florentine, and Van Peebles is a worthy addition, love his turns in front and behind the camera on New Jack City, Posse, Gunmen, Full Eclipse (chemically enhanced werewolf cops, hell yeah!) and got a soft spot for SOLO….

Now while we all have our likes and dislikes for actors/performers etc, questioning Adkins physicality? There’s plenty of footage of the man in gyms and at seminars flipping and kicking to full effect which are proof positive of no digital trickery/…..

I’ve always felt Gary still hasn’t been given the best showcase for what he can do, some of his best work seems to have been some of the least seen…..

    • Mike Retter says:

I wasnt questioning the man physically, merely pointing out that stars establishing themselves in this era as martial arts actors do it in a time post-CGI. We dont really have a new martial arts actor even of JCVD fame. Donnie Yen doesnt count – he established himself in the previous era.

My physical questioning is more that of charisma and on-screen appearance. In that sense he just doesn’t appeal. Hes no Bumbling-dramatic beefcake statue Daniels or Gritty Bogart-characterization Jeff Wincott. Adkins is just middle of the road.

And I tried to watch that Universal Soldier sequel that rips off the torture porn and visceral aesthetics of Gaspar Noe .. I find that too sick and cinematically unclassical to show a physical and archetypal cinema. In that sense its not archetypal and doesnt work for a moment. You cant veer too much from Bloodport or Tiger Cage 2. Better to watch the Hayams kid documentary “The Smashing Machine” about Mark Kerr than this misunderstanding of the fun Emmerich original.

Florentine is a great visual stylist, one of the best martial arts directors working today. But thats not even a late-Seagal excitement on the Cover with Adkins, not a Dudikof or Dragon-wilson. No even a SOLO.

  6. Marijan says:

Gary Daniels was real fighter he is retired professional and amateur kickboxer who scored 33 knockout victories, and a former World Light-heavyweight Kickboxing Champion (P.K.A.) for those who didn’t know. i like Scot Adkins he has many bad movies but he has many good movies he is not Van Damme but he is good fighter on screen

  7. Andrew says:

Let’s go dude ! Adkins is having an awesome year ! besides that one blip, but Johnson really delivered with Debt Collectors in may and now Papa Florentine will keep us covered in Fall !

  8. Dan Hagen says:

Damn, that trailer gets me pumped. Bring it on.

  9. Mike Retter says:

What a crappy trailer. Bloody Inception music… Shaky action scenes. And Adkins….

  10. dakuan says:

    i regret watching the trailer.
not so good overall, and basically spoils all the movie.

  11. Mike Retter says:

Seized? I bet if I watched this it would be more like Peeved.
