Stuntman-turned-director Shin Jae-myung (who worked on the action for Gangnam 1970) is getting ready to unleash his first film, Special Agent. The trailer for this upcoming actioner has just been released and begs the question: Has South Korea found its take on Tak Sakaguchi’s Re:Born?
Special Agent tells the story of Won-cheol (Lee Jae-yoon), an agent of the National Intelligence Service of the Republic of Korea, who is in charge of removing VIPs who participated in the operation of developing weapons of mass destruction in North Korea.
The film also stars Gong Jung-hwan (The Bad Guys: Reign of Chaos), Kim Kang-il (Unalterable) and Jung Chang-hyun (The Mayor).
Special Agent is releasing domestically later this month. Don’t miss its Trailer below:
Looks more like a rip off than an answer.
The South Korean film industry does not rip off other movies. They answer to them. Come on now!
how can you rip off something that already sucks ass?
To be honest, Re: Born wasn’t that impressive for me, obscure fighting scenes and plenty of incoherent plot devices, combined with dull dialogue and forced drama in between, did not add to my personal excitement. Korena action cinema is known to deliver when putting enough effort into it – The Man from nowhere, The Suspect, City of Violence, Arahan, Revenger, even the overly dramatical The Villainess, so I’ll keep an eye out for this new film. It might be something good.
I have to agree with you there. If it ends up on Netflix, I’ll flip a coin to decide on whether to watch it or not.
to be honest, i find that “not impressive” is a massive understatement.
Re:born is plainly bad

If their goal was really to meet Tak Saguchi’s Re:Born, they lost. Nothing in this trailer demonstrates a superiority in the mastered concept of Re:Born which remains the most impressive knife fight film that I have seen in the cinema. With its tale to pick up, and its influences from the fantastic side and the Metal Gear Solid video game saga and of course its concept, make Re:Born a singular and totally cult work.
I’m not so impressed.
Sakaguchi is unique.
