The genres of the Italian western and the classic, traditional kung fu movie have many similarities. They both arose out of a turbulent, massively creative time in their respective industries, were low budget yet ground-breakingly innovative, and were shot without sound and dubbed in the studio. Both also birthed many average to bad movies, such was the demand of the market for their product, and were a genre part-based around new ways to depict violence. Italian westerns served as inspiration for the traditional kung fu film. In their settings, the American West and period China respectively, they re-imagined these time periods colourfully and bravely. To my knowledge the only time an Italian western has been legitimately remade in the classic kung fu mould is the late 70s Lee Yi Min starrer 7 Commandments of Kung Fu

The film follows a lot of the same story beats as Tonino Valerii’s Day of Anger, but I see it as more of a re-imagining. What’s interesting about 7 Commandments is how it adapts these narrative points to the kung fu genre, and the mentor/student relationship which is at the heart of many old school movies. Also, the genuine emotion it creates with the subversion of the villainous Continue reading

4 Luminous Modern Bathroom Lighting Trends in 2023

Modern lighting always hits the mark when lighting your home for comfort and style. Utilizing the latest technology and design features will be the way forward for many years.

If you want to learn more about trends we’re set to see this year, read our extensive guide on modern bathroom lighting.

1. LED Fixtures

LED fixtures are a crucial element of the luminous modern bathroom lighting trends in 2023. Advances in LED technology have allowed for high-end fixtures to be designed with even more efficient operation. This provides for brilliant effects in the bathroom that was not previously achievable.

Using fewer but brighter lights gives the room a more unified look. Also, you can now get these bathroom lighting fixtures in various colors, sizes, and styles to fit your design needs.

They are also quite energy-efficient, making them an ideal choice for the bathroom. Not only do they provide bright and beautiful lighting, but they are also an excellent solution for saving money on energy bills in the long run.

2. Track Lighting

Track lighting consists of individual spotlight bulbs that are affixed to a bar. This can be adjusted and maneuvered to create custom lighting solutions to suit any aesthetic.

The modern trend for track lighting in the bathroom is to feature multiple bulbs of varying hues. This allows for a wash of light across the entire bathroom that is truly luminous.

The soft white light created by track lighting gives the illusion of more space. At the same time, adjusting each bulb can provide the illusion of theater-style lighting.

3. Smart Lighting

Smart lighting systems can be programmed to dim the lights automatically when dark and turn them on and off based on specific sensors. The lights can even be used to control the environment and mood of your bathroom via an app.

Consumers can set the lights to create a warm, inviting ambiance or a bright and vibrant environment. Both lighting systems offer efficient energy consumption that won’t waste energy. Smart lighting also makes your bathroom more innovative and efficient.

Wireless motion sensors can be used to turn on and off the lights when entering or leaving the bathroom, and light levels can be changed depending on your needs.

You may have this kind of lighting through proper custom home remodeling. This ensures that the intelligent lighting will work efficiently and safely and be tailored to your needs.

4. Pendant Lighting

As a growing trend in bathroom lighting, pendant lighting has many benefits. It can provide illumination for the vanity without hitting the wall or having to worry about a backplate.

Many creative options, such as rustic metal, matte black, and sleek glass designs, are available. When used in a cluster, it can be a focal point in the bathroom.

Modern Bathroom Lighting You Should Consider

Modern bathrooms in 2023 will be outfitted with bright lighting ideas that combine beautiful, energy-saving options to bring a stylish look to your space.

From LED lighting to intelligent fixtures, 2023 will bring innovative lighting solutions to your home. Update your lighting to enhance the beauty of your bathroom and create a soothing ambiance.

Try modern bathroom lighting trends today and enjoy the difference!

Guide To Extract Audio From DVD

You must tear and remove audio from DVDs in certain cases. Some would like to rip DVD-free audio and edit the audio in those audio editors.

One has to transform their DVD to audio tracks to play on their handheld media devices, including an MP3 player. Some people like to place the soundtrack on their smartphone or sing with only DVD audio.

Audio can be difficult to extract from a DVD disc. Thankfully you can use a DVD audio extractor to pursue some established methods.

Extract Audio from DVD Approach

One approach is to extract the DVD to a disc with a program like Handbrake and then separate the audio from the video by means of a VLC Media Player. You may also attempt to record the internal audio of your device using an audio editor such as Audacity during playback on the DVD in real-time.

This second approach takes time if you have a big set, but helps you to manage and edit silences, applause, and lame tracks. Rip your DVD to a video file with HandBrake to try the first process. No matter which format of video file you want to rip to, you may want to monkey the settings under the audio tab if you’re chic about audio quality.

After you have ripped the DVD into a video file effectively, you have to divide the audio from your video Launch VLC Media Player and select the File menu to stream / Export Wizard. The Wizard will help you pick the video file you want and how to transcode audio (WAV or MP3) and where to store the new file.

Steps to Extract DVD Audio Using DVD Audio Extractor

Before you begin, make sure you already download the software and installed it on your computer. Insert the DVD to your DVD drive and follow the steps below:

Step 1: Select the chapters to extract

Launch the software. The software immediately identifies all the chapters after the DVD disc is loaded. Check/tick the chapters that you wish to extract the audio and click the Next button to continue.

Step 2: Choose the file format for encoding

In this stage, you must select the correct audio output format like MP3, OGG, WAV, etc. Only expand the tag “Rip Everything to” and browse the “Audio” to pick an audio source format. You can, for example, pick “MP3” from the “Audio” as the output format if you want to remove the soundtrack from the DVD film as an MP3 file. You will also be able to make certain extra configurations and modifications by clicking on ‘Configurations’ for the performance parameters of audio profiles such as encoding, bitrate, sampling rate, channels, etc.

Step 3: Select the output file location

This is the location where the output file will be stored. So, choose the folder on your computer. Click the Next button to continue.

Step 4: Start to Rip DVD Audio.

Just press the “Start” button when it is set up and you can start ripping this DVD audio ripper immediately. In just a few minutes, the conversion is completed. The DVD cannot be audio conversational with a few easy steps as you can see, it doesn’t need to have a background or a cumbersome process.

How About Extracting Audio in Mac OS X?

You also can use the same program to rip the audio from DVD on Mac or Linux. For more information, visit the official site dvdae.com.

There’s good news and bad news about the alternative strategy on Mac. The positive news is that Apple’s embedded audio drivers are more reliable and robust than PC users’ audio drivers.

The bad news is that you have to move a step forward to add handy Soundflower software that helps you to interconnect audio from your Mac to programs. After Soundflower is installed, open your Mac Audio MIDI Configuration in the Utility tab, choose the Audio tab, and make a Default Output and System Output “SoundFlower (2 ch). Then open the preferences of Audacity and pick the item “Key Audio: Sound Flower (2 ch).”

Conclusion

It’s not always easy to just extract audio from DVD because technical resources are restricted to help you do this. One of the tools you can count on can be DVD Audio Extractor from dvdae.com.

It offers a professional and particularly simple, versatile program to help you extract the audio file with the highest audio quality from all kinds of DVD movies. You can further customize your conversion profile with its advanced settings.

Sakra (2023) Review

"Sakra" Theatrical Poster

“Sakra” Theatrical Poster

Director: Donnie Yen
Cast: Donnie Yen, Yuqi Chen, Cya Liu Ya-Se, Kara Hui, Wu Yue, Eddie Cheung Siu-fai, Ray Lui, Tsui Siu-Ming, Yuen Cheung-Yan, Du Yu-Ming, Michelle Hu Ran
Running Time: 130 min.

By Paul Bramhall

Out of the many famous wuxia novels out there, its Jin Yong’s Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils that takes the award for the one that’s been adapted for the screen the most. On the small screen alone there’s been 6 adaptations over the last 40 years, and on the big screen it was the Shaw Brothers studio that first took the plunge in 1977 with The Battle Wizard, which wisely chose to adapt only a part of the sprawling tale. Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils followed in 1982 as a quick cash-in on the popular TVB series from the same year, and in 1994 it was given the new wave wire-fu treatment with The Dragon Chronicles: The Maidens of Heavenly Mountain. Even Jackie Chan was announced to be starring in an adaptation in the mid-90’s, which sadly never got off the ground. Now in 2023, a 4th feature length production has arrived in the form of Sakra.

Also marking the 4th time for Donnie Yen to take on both director and leading man duties, it’s taken a long time for Asia’s biggest action star to return to the director’s chair since his resurgence close to 20 years ago with 2005’s Sha Po Lang. While he took a co-director credit on the awful 2004 Twins (remember them?) vehicle Protégé de la Rose Noire, when most people think of Yen’s directorial output it’ll be his trilogy of starring turns made across 1997 and 1998, comprising of Legend of the Wolf, Ballistic Kiss, and Shanghai Affairs. As a director Yen proved to be a divisive talent, his fondness for brooding antiheroes and hyper undercranked action scenes being admired by some, and ridiculed by others. Whichever side you fell on, what couldn’t be denied is that Yen Continue reading

6 Tips for Succeeding at Poker Online

Poker can be extremely rewarding when done right but also very costly if played wrong. If you’re new to the game or just looking to improve your online poker skills, then this article will provide some valuable tips for succeeding at poker online. With these tips, you’ll soon win big and enjoy the game even more.

1. Learn the Basics of Poker

Before you can succeed online, it’s essential to understand the basics of poker. Learn the rules, become familiar with the different hands, and brush up on the different play styles. Once you know the basics, making good decisions at each turn will be much easier.

Every poker variation has its own set of rules and strategies, so be sure to familiarize yourself with the game you’re playing before diving in. For example, in Texas Holdem, players may use five of their two hole cards and the five community cards to form the best five-card poker hand. It differs from Omaha, where players must use two of their four hole cards and three of the five community cards.

Knowing the poker hand rankings lets you recognize potential strong hands and make better decisions. Although this is a fundamental step, some new players may find it difficult to remember the hand rankings. An easy way to help with this is to keep a copy of the hand rankings chart handy as you play. As you become more familiar with the game, you can start making decisions without referring to it.

Lastly, poker has four common play styles: tight-aggressive, loose-aggressive, tight-passive, and loose-passive. Although each play style has advantages and disadvantages, tight-aggressive is generally the most successful and recommended for beginners. As you become more experienced, you may be able to adjust your play style according to the table dynamics.

2. Choose the Right Poker Site

First, verify if the site is licensed and regulated by a reputable authority to ensure fair and secure games. Also, read up on the payment options to ensure quick and easy deposits and withdrawals from your account.

Additionally, check whether the site offers promotions or bonuses for new players. These can significantly boost your bankroll and help you get off to a good start.

You should also consider the website’s player traffic, game selection, and software usability. A large player base and a wide selection of games mean more freedom to choose the perfect table, while intuitive and easy-to-use software will help ensure a smooth experience every time you play.

Lastly, ensure the site is compatible with any devices you use for online gaming so you can access it anytime.

3. Practice With Free Online Poker

Once you’ve chosen a poker site, take some time to practice with free poker games online. These are great for getting familiar with the rules and play styles before risking your own money. It’s also an excellent opportunity to test new strategies and get comfortable with the online environment. Once you feel confident, switch to real money games and build your bankroll.

4. Play According to Position

Position is an essential factor in online poker and refers to where you sit relative to the dealer button. Playing tight from early positions (the first few seats to the left of the dealer button) is generally recommended, as there are still many players to act after you. Conversely, playing more loosely and aggressively from a late position is often more profitable, as you have better information about the other players’ hands. Blind stealing is another typical move from a late position and can be very profitable if done correctly.

5. Understand Pot Odds and Equity

Pot odds and equity are two crucial concepts in poker that will help you make more profitable decisions. Pot odds refer to the ratio of money in the pot versus the amount you need to call, while equity is your chance of winning the pot.

Knowing these concepts will help you calculate whether it is profitable to call a bet. For example, if there is $50 in the pot and your opponent’s bet is $10, this gives you 5:1 pot odds. To compare pot odds with equity, you must first convert it into a percentage. So, in this case, the pot odds are 5:1 or 16.67%. If you estimate your equity is greater than 16.67%, then calling is profitable. Calculating these numbers quickly and accurately will help you make better decisions at the poker table.

6. Utilize Software and Tools

Calculating pot odds and equity under pressure can be complex, especially if you are a beginner. To make your life easier, look for poker rooms with built-in calculators or use third-party software to help with calculations. These tools can be invaluable aids when playing online poker.

Another helpful tool is a HUD (Heads-Up Display). It tracks your opponents’ statistics and allows you to quickly adjust your strategy based on their tendencies. However, be sure to check the rules at your site before using any outside software, as some sites may ban their use.

Conclusion

Poker can be a gratifying game if you take the time to learn and practice, so don’t be discouraged if you initially face losses. Following these tips will help get you started on your way to becoming a successful online poker player. And don’t forget to take advantage of the numerous tools and software available to help you reach your goals. Start playing today by signing up at n8!

Best Horror Movies to Stream this Weekend

Are you a fan of horror movies? We know we are! Yes, it gets terrifying often to watch horror movies alone, which is why we recommend having company over and a lot of snacks when streaming horror movies this weekend.

If you are still searching for the best horror movies, check out the list we have gathered below. It contains some of the best-rated movies globally, so you will surely get the creeps watching it online!

  1. Paranormal Activity

One of the highest-grossing movies with $200 million in profit, Paranormal Activity is a movie that any true horror movie fan should undoubtedly notice. The plot revolves around Katie and Micah and their experiences with supernatural forces in their new house.

While Katie insists on seeking help from a skilled demonologist, Micah continues to go against her and sets up a camera to record any unusual activities. This leads them to witness several proofs of an evil existence in their house. Watch this movie on YouTube TV in UK to see how the story ends.

  1. Texas Chainsaw Massacre

This is one of the most gruesome horror movies, primarily focused on the bloodbath and human dismemberment. Inspired by the real-life criminal Ed Gein, Texas Chainsaw Massacre focuses on how a brutal murderer, Leatherface, attacks, kills, and disfigures a group of young adults.

As Sally, her brother, and their friends stop for gas before arriving at their grandfather’s house, they are attacked by a chainsaw-wielding criminal along with his brother. The movie is filled with thrilling yet ghastly scenes of execution which are not for the faint-hearted.

  1. It

We do not recommend watching this movie to people with a chronic fear of clowns. It is one of the scariest clown movies, with Pennywise being the top villain in horror movies. The story is focused on the shape-shifting clown who feeds on children by trapping them under his bridge.

The unique part is that he only traps children who are bullied and abused as he likes feeding on to his fears. His method to attack children is to make them face their worst nightmares and then chomp off their bodies alive.

Watch It with all its parts for a scary horror movie weekend marathon.

  1. Dead Silence

If you think this is a regular scary movie about dolls that haunt and kill people, you might be wrong. Dead Silence revolves around the plot of Jamie and his wife Lisa, who was killed as he went out to buy dinner for them, by an unidentified figure.

The plot thickens as Jamie goes deeper into the mystery of his wife’s murder and discovers shocking truths about his family and the series of murders that followed. However, all the deaths and unusual incidents were connected to a main character, Mary Shaw, a dead ventriloquist.

Watch Dead Silence to see how the movie ends with all the links connecting to the past of Jamie’s family and the series of revenge which followed.

  1. Insidious

When Josh and Renai move to their new house with their three children, Dalton, Foster, and Cali. One unfortunate evening, Dalton is confronted by an unidentified entity and goes into a coma. What happens next is a series of shocking and scary episodes as Dalton’s soul is revealed to be stuck in another realm.

Watch Insidious to know how he is saved by Elise, a psychic, along with her paranormal investigators, to get the bottom of his case and bring his father’s past into light which is the main reason Dalton got exposed to evil spirits.

  1. Choose or Die

When Kayla discovers an old video game in her friend Isaac’s apartment, she plays it, thinking it would be a way for them to win easy money. However, things turned dark when the game started to interfere with reality.

The game was highly deadly, forcing her to choose a terrible fate for someone else or die. This is one of the most gripping movies, with suspense from beginning to end for the viewers. You can watch Choose or Die on your next horror movie marathon.

Final Thoughts

To sum it up, now that you have gone through the list of some of the best horror movies to stream online, we hope you choose the one that resonates with your movie preferences.

We love a good scary movie with a good plot, many jump-scares, and just the spookiness to get us through the film and have us hooked until the very end. Let us know what you think, as we would love to get your feedback. Happy streaming!

Calamity of Snakes (1983) Review 🐍

Calamity of Snakes | Blu-ray (Unearthed Films)

Calamity of Snakes | Blu-ray (Unearthed Films)

Director: William Cheung Kei
Cast: Kao Yuen, Hsiang Yun-Peng, Wei Ping-Ao, Zheng You-Xiu, Lee Ying, Ou-Yang Sha Fei
Running Time: 96 min.

By Paul Bramhall

There’s only a handful of movies out there whose reputation precedes them, and 1983’s Calamity of Snakes is one of them. I first came across it in the late 90’s through the pages of the book Mondo Macabro by Pete Tombs (who went on to create a boutique DVD and Blu-ray label that’s still going strong today), published in 1997. It was a time when I was at the beginning of my Asian cinema journey, and while it was an educational experience to be reading about this world of cult Asian horror that I was only partially aware existed, back then the chances of ever watching them seemed slim. Thankfully, things changed a lot in the succeeding years. Starting with Celestial’s Shaw Brothers DVD run in 2003, titles like The Boxer’s Omen (of which an image graced the cover of the book), The Killer Snakes, and Seeding of a Ghost were suddenly readily available, and it was a joy to finally be able to watch them in all their gory Shawscope glory.

Independent productions fared less well, with even basic questions like who currently holds the rights to them often leading down a never-ending rabbit hole. In that regard the 2020’s are shaping up to be a promising decade when it comes to many of these more obscure entries in the Asian horror genre not only seeing the light of day, but also being meticulously remastered and given the deluxe treatment. Titles like 1981’s The Devil (thanks to Massacre Video) 1982’s Centipede Horror, and 1983’s Red Spell Spells Red (both thanks to Error 4444) have all hit Blu-ray in recent Continue reading
