Bong Joon-ho’s ‘Mickey 17’ starring Robert Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo and Steven Yeun gets pushed back to 2025

Bong Joon-ho (Okja, The Host, The Snowpiercer), the acclaimed South Korean director of the 2019 masterpiece Parasite, will soon return with Warner’s thriller, Mickey 17, based on Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel Mickey7 (the film is spelled slightly differently with a “17”).

Mickey 17 stars Robert Pattinson (The Batman, Good Time), Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker), Mark Ruffalo (Windtalkers), Toni Collette (Hereditary) and Steven Yeun (Burning).

Edward Ashton’s high concept science fiction novel is being described as The Martian meets Dark Matter, in which Mickey7 (Pattinson), an “expendable”, refuses to let his replacement clone Mickey8 take his place (via Amazon).

Mickey 17 was due for a March 29, 2024 release,  but has been pushed back to January 31, 2025. As Deadline notes: a very odd date for a highly anticipated follow-up from Oscar and Cannes Palme d’Or winning Parasite filmmaker Bong Joon-ho.

We’ll keep you updated on Mickey 17 as we learn more. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the film’s Teaser Trailer below:

And another Asian director leaving his country to sell out to Hollywood. Pitiful but so predictable.

    • The Bothan Spy says:

Yee haaa, how dare those Asian’s come out of Asia! They need to stay where they come from!

      __

Wow Racist Redneck has sniffed way too much glue!

I think Bong Jing-hoo knows whats he’s doing and if he;s gonna do something in Hollywood it’s going to be on his terms, but then again REDNECK, you do know Snowpiercer was based on a French Graphic Novel, im guessing by your way of thinking he shouldn’t have been allowed to read that as he’s an Asian and Asian’s should stay where they come from…>

If you’re gonna start being this ‘pure’ then maybe you need ti impose an ethnicity card when you want to watch movies, oh i’m sorry you’re not of the right ethnicity deemed suitable as the correct audience

Should be give back his Academy Awards because you don’t approve and feel he’s selling out?

      • Ska Martes says:

The original comment seems to be a mixture of gatekeeping and also Asians should stay in their own lane. While I’m not sure if his cousin is also his wife, I wouldn’t be surprised

        • Tory says:

Yeah, I didn’t appreciate the implications either. If the man wants to make a Robert Pattinson movie (damn good actor, by the way), let him make a Robert Pattinson movie. There’s nothing “pitiful” about it. What’s pitiful about making kick-ass movies and getting paid more than I’ve probably made in the last 10 years to do it?

  2. shane says:

Not an upcoming book. Came out last year I believe. Read it when the project was announced and doesn’t feel like something director Bong would do but am curious to see how he will make it his own

    1) I couldn’t care less about the Oscars. Korean cinema didn’t need the Oscars to be interesting, don’t you know (who are the ….kicker inbred rednecks now?). But fine, go all in the land of the free (what a joke), there will always be talented filmmakers everywhere else.

    2) 99% of the TALENTED Asian who went to Hollywood got f… and returned to their country the tail between their legs. I don’t want that to happen to Bong (his only “disappointing” movies are Barking…, Snowpiercer and the atrocious woke almost vegan Okja…I love the host but most of the SFX are unwatchable today).

    3) Yes, Pattinson is a great actor (I “realised” it watching the excellent The rover where he wasn’t ridiculous facing Guy Pearce in an Australian movie which is saying a lot, in Good time,…).

    4) To treat me as an anti Asian or whatever is the most hilarious thing I’ve heard about me in YEARS if not in this century. Oh my, if you knew.

    5) I never eat at McDonald’s or drink a coffee at Starbucks. Never. Wherever I am. If you get what I mean. If you don’t then insult me again, that won’t ruin my day…my morning…my hour…my minute…or this fracking second.

    Have a nice day.

At least it’s getting a release. Still curious about Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme. One of the Deadline commenters claims the book sucks.

  5. Jet Jaguar says:

David Zaslav is totally going to fuck this movie over.
