New poster for Chow Yun-fat’s ‘The Man From Macau’

"The Man From Macau" Theatrical Poster

"The Man From Macau" Theatrical Poster

THE MOVIE: In Wong Jing’s The Man From Macau (aka God of Gamblers 4Casino; or From Vegas To Macau), Chow Yun-fat returns to the character of Ko Chun, a world-famous gambler, so renowned and talented at winning various games of chance, that he is referred to as the God Of Gamblers. Nicholas Tse (New Police Story) and Chapman To (Men Suddenly in Black) co-star.

It’s no stretch of the imagination to say that the God of Gamblers series contained some of the most popular Hong Kong movies of the 80’s and 90’s. Spanning an almost innumerable amount of sequels, spin-offs, and parodies, the franchise helped cement actor Chow Yun-fat’s star status and ensure director Wong Jing’s dominance at the box office.

Piecing together the God of Gamblers’ timeline can also be as difficult as keeping tabs on the Star Wars’ expanded universe – not only is there is a God of Gamblers III: Back to Shanghai (1991), but there’s also a God of Gamblers 3: The Early Stage (1997).

Updates: According to a new story from JayneStars, God of Gamblers 4 is known simply as Casino and it will be directed by Wong Jing. Actors Chow Yun-fat, Nicholas Tse, and Chapman To are producing. The movie appears to only loosely be connected to the God of Gamblers series; despite the title, Wong Jing promises that the movie will not promote gambling since it is a Mainland co-production. | The film is also known as From Vegas To Macau and Back to Macau. | From Vegas To Macau has an Asian release date for January 30, 2014. | The film is now titled The Man From Macau. | First English subbed trailer. | Latest trailer.

Newest trailer for ‘Crows Explode’ flies in!

"Crows Explode" Theatrical Poster

"Crows Explode" Theatrical Poster

Back in 2007, director Takashi Miike continued his successful streak of adapting violent manga into live-action films with Crows Zero. The movie told the story of warring factions at an all-boys school and their brawling ways. Although the film was considered a very ‘loose’ adaptation of its source material, Miike’s mix of over-the-top humor and rawdy fisticuffs earned the film a strong cult following. A follow-up came with Crows Zero 2 (2009), but fans should be pleased to hear that a third movie, titled Crows Explode, is on its way next year.

This time around, Takashi Miike has been replaced in the director’s chair by Toshiaki Toyoda. Toyoda is no stranger to angst-ridden teenagers, however: his 2001 film Blue Spring is still highly regarded as a bleak portrait of disaffected youth in Tokyo. The third film movie in the Crows series, titled Crows Explode, is also a direct adaptation of manga source material.

This new teaser trailer suggests that the film should have plenty of action and boyhood posturing to offer Crows fans.

Having killed several of them in the process, John and his family are now the prime targets of Hollis, the ruthless criminal leader of the group.
