RELEASE DATE: June 30, 2020
On June 30, 2020, Lionsgate Home Entertainment is releasing the Blu-ray & DVD for Force of Nature.
After a consistent stream of shoot ’em up titles such as Get The Gringo, Machete Kills, Expendables 3, Blood Father and Dragged Across Concrete, legendary action star/director, Mel Gibson (Edge of Darkness), is out for more blood in Force of Nature, an action thriller from director Michael Polish (Big Sur).
During a violent category 5 hurricane, a disgraced cop, Cardillo (Emile Hirsch, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Speed Racer) races to evacuate an apartment building when he comes across Dr. Troy (Kate Bosworth, Superman Returns, Straw Dogs), and her retired detective father Ray (Gibson). When a murderous gang of thieves arrives to rob a wealthy tenant, they must join forces to battle the criminals and escape with their lives before the entire city is deep underwater.
Force of Nature hits Blu-ray & DVD on June 30, 2020. Trailer below:
This looks promising. AFAIK, I think Mel Gibson is less concerned with being in big-budget AAA movies these days, and more concerned with supporting smaller projects that have great writing.
For example: I finally got around to watching S. Craig Zahler’s “Dragged Across Concrete” the other night, an under-the-radar crime thriller that’s clearly low-budget, but has a script made of gold. Not sure if “Force of Nature” will be quite the same, but given that Mel has chosen to star in both of them, it probably means it will be worth watching.
Also: I can’t bring myself to watch whole trailers anymore, since they pretty much give away the entire movie. I basically just watch the first half of the trailer and let that help determine if I am interested or not.
In this case, I saw Mel Gibson sitting in an apartment building before an impending hurricane, and refusing to get out of his recliner while another character and a policeman plead with him to do otherwise. That’s it, I can stop the trailer right there. I’m already sold.
I loved Dragged Across Concrete as well. Definitely a “smaller project that has great writing”. Force of Nature looks like a hit or miss (sometimes Lionsgate sells stuff as just an “action movie” when it’s so much more, so it’s hard for me to pinpoint the Trailer). It’s different when you have a director like S. Craig Zahler, where, regardless of the so-so Trailer, you almost guarantee yourself the movie will be great.
