As with many high profile stars in the movie business, Jackie Chan is no stranger to producing many films he doesn’t appear in. Some of these titles include 1986’s Naughty Boys, 1987’s Rouge, 1991’s Angry Ranger, 1991’s Center Stage, 2011’s Legendary Amazons, 2015’s Amnesia, 2017’s Reset and 2018’s Golden Job.

The latest film Jackie Chan is backing is Home Operation, which is currently in production in Hajar al-Aswad, a city located in Syria, which was once the stomping grounds for members of ISIS.

Home Operation is directed by Song Yinxi, who directed the aforementioned 2015 film, Amnesia, which was essentially a remake of the late Benny Chan’s 1998 hit actioner, Who Am I?, which starred Jackie Chan. The film stars Liu Ye, who is perhaps best known for starring in 2013’s Police Story 2013 (with Jackie Chan), 2015’s Saving Mr. Wu and 2017’s The Founding of an Army.

According to TJP, Home Operation is inspired by China’s evacuation of hundreds of Chinese citizens and foreign nationals from war-torn Yemen in 2015. The production team deemed Yemen — which has been wrecked by a civil war since 2014 — too dangerous to film in, so they chose to shoot certain scenes in Syria instead.

That same source adds that the film is generating controversy for its decision to film in Hajar al-Aswad and for the content of its film.”The Chinese fascist regime is an ally of Syria, and they are trying to whitewash their crimes in actions like this. The Chinese who came and filmed this movie should respect the Syrians whose homes were bombed and destroyed, leading to many Syrians becoming displaced,” chided Syrian journalist Fared al-Mahlool (via LNA).

We’ll keep you updated on Home Operation as more news comes.  Until then, the video below sheds more light on the project.
