Veteran Hong Kong filmmaker Andrew Lau – mostly known for undisputed classics such as Young and Dangerous film series, the Infernal Affairs trilogy, as well as blockbuster favorites like The Storm Riders and Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen – is currently putting finishing touches on his controversial film, simply titled Chinese Doctors.

Chinese Doctors will be an account of Chinese medical workers on the front line against COVID-19. Given that the pandemic began over 6 months ago, and is still very much in effect, it’ll be interesting to see what narrative the film will take. Who knows, maybe they’ll dig deep into its Wuhan, China origins, or even toy around some of the conspiracies behind it. After all, the infectious disease is still very young and dangerous (*ba dum tss*)…

The Chinese Doctors stars Zhang Hanyu (Operation Red Sea, Manhunt), Yuan Quan (Call of Heroes), Li Chen (Aftershock), Zhu Yamen (The Captain), Oho Ou (Legend of the Demon Cat), Jackson Yee (Better Days), Mei Ting (1911), Zhang Tian’ai (Legend of the Naga Pearls), Li Qin (The Founding of an Army), Song Jia (The Final Master), Faye Yu (Wu Kong), William Feng (The Monkey King 3) and Tong Liya (Wild City).

This is a patriotic themed movie from one of the most celebrated Hong Kong director who has lost his sense of direction and artistic value for the sake of chasing the fat paycheque

Somehow I think if this film is intended to be shown in China (or Hong Kong), it may not be entirely fact based. Probably about as fact based as the Yip Man movies …

The movie was already released in China and made about 205 million dollars.
