Timo Tjahjanto (The Big 4), one half of the directing duo known as the “Mo Brothers” (Killers, Headshot, Macabre), is on board to direct The Burnout, an upcoming action-comedy from Miramax Films.
The project – written by Tom O’Connor (The Hitman’s Bodyguard) and Hunter Toro (St. Denis Medical) – follows a washed up former CIA agent living a carefree burnout lifestyle in Ibiza, who is reluctantly pulled back into action. Deadline describes it as as “The Big Lebowski meets Jason Bourne“. No further details are available at this time.
🔥 Footnote: Timo is nowhere close to being a burnout (pun intended). Best known for Indonesian action films like 2018’s The Night Comes for Us and 2024’s The Shadow Strays, Tjahjanto has caught Hollywood’s attention, building a mainstream career with films like 2025’s Nobody 2 and the upcoming The Beekeeper 2. He’s also attached to direct Warner Bros.’ The Last Train to New York, a U.S. remake of Yeon Sang Ho’s 2016 South Korean blockbuster Train to Busan, as well as a remake of Steven Seagal’s 1992 action classic Under Siege.
But wait, there’s more! Tjahjanto has also been linked to a film adaptation of Square Enix’s hit video game Sleeping Dogs. Meanwhile, he’s developing The Shadow Kills, a sequel to The Shadow Strays; as well as a buddy action pic with Joe Taslim and Andrew Koji; and hard at work on The Big 4: Part Two.
We’ll keep you updated on The Burnout as we learn more. Until then, we high recommend checking out Timo’s The Shadow Strays:
