Renny Harlin (Bodies at Rest), noted Hollywood film director known for his 90’s blockbusters Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger, is getting ready to die harder with The Beast, an upcoming actioner starring Samuel L. Jackson (xXx: Return of Xander Cage) and Joel Kinnaman (Silent Night).
When a militia of unidentified hostiles coordinates a coup against the U.S., the president uncovers the extent of The Beast’s highly classified offensive capabilities in order to save his life and America.
Written by Umair Aleem (Kate), The Beast also stars Guy Burnet (Oppenheimer), Eoin Macken (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter) and Colin Morgan (Reflections).
🔥 Footnote: Back in the ’90s, Renny Harlin looked destined to become one of Hollywood’s great action directors. Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, and The Long Kiss Goodnight cemented his reputation, but declining box office and the massive flop Cutthroat Island soon dried up the big-budget offers. By the 2000s, he was making films like 12 Rounds and The Legend of Hercules. His fortunes changed in 2016 when he directed Jackie Chan in Skiptrace. The Chinese production topped the Chinese box office and led to more offers from Chinese studios, including 2018’s Legend of the Ancient Sword and 2019’s Bodies at Rest. Since then, Harlin has been making his way back into Hollywood with entries in The Strangers series and the recent airplane-disaster-meets-shark thriller Deep Water. Could The Beast finally bring him back to Die Hard 2/The Long Kiss Goodnight territory?
