On July 28, 2026, Visual Vengeance is releasing the Blu-ray for The Nine Demons, a 1984 post-Shaw Brothers film from legendary Hong Kong director Chang Cheh (Death Ring, The One Armed Sworsman).
Director Chang Cheh was rightfully known as the Godfather of Hong Kong action cinema, and after the Shaw Brothers studio wound down its movie production, he still managed to crank out a further 11 in Taiwan and Mainland China. One of these films was Nine Demons, which reunited him with members of the Venom Mob, a group of frequent Chang Cheh collaborators made famous in a string of late 70s/early 80s cult favorites, most notably 1978’s Five Deadly Venoms.
Though not a Shaw Brothers production, Nine Demons carries over the Venoms’ signature fight choreography into a surreal fantasy world packed with flying skull demons, vampiric children, and chaotic low-budget and bloody effects. The result is a feverish, anything-goes blend of old school martial arts heroics and occult horror that stands as a truly unhinged and unforgettable cult artifact of the classic martial arts era.
After selling his soul to the devil, Joey (Ricky Cheng Tien Chi, Five Element Ninjas) is given the power to control 9 demons. With their help, Joey must save his childhood friend Gary from a bloody massacre.
The Nine Demons also stars Chris Lee Kin Sang (Full Alert), Lee Chung Yat (Death Ring), Lu Feng (Ninja Condors), Chiang Sheng (Kid with the Golden Arm) and Chui Tai Ping (House of Traps).
