“Trigger Warning” Netflix Poster
Jessica Alba (Sin City) is doing the Kate, Maria, Killing Boksoon and Interceptor thing with Netflix’ upcoming thriller, Trigger Warning, which is being described as “a female-led cross between First Blood and John Wick“.
In the film, a skilled Special Forces commando (Alba) takes ownership of her father’s bar after he suddenly dies, and soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown.
Stuntman Eric Brown – who is perhaps best known for his work on this 2024’s The Brothers Sun, 2022’s Day Shift, and 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum – handles the film’s fight choreography.
Trigger Warning also stars Anthony Michael Hall (The Breakfast Club), Mark Webber (Green Room), Jake Weary (It Follows), Tone Bell (Dog Days), Gabriel Basso (The Hive), Kaiwi Lyman-Mersereau (Traded) and Hari Dhillon (Billions).
The film is directed by Mouly Surya (Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts) and written by duo John Brancato and Josh Olson (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, The Net), as well as Halley Wegryn Gross (Banshee).

This actually looks decent and seems to be playing to Alba’s strengths as opposed to making her into someone who knocks people several feet back. She seems like her character from Dark Angel but without the enhanced strength and reflexes.
I hope this isn’t another case of “cool trailer, shitty movie.”

Believable action? I’m guessing not really. “Don’t think, feel!” kind of fun? Looks like it to me! And the beautiful Jessica Alba? Yes, please!
As long as its not worse than Heart of Stone (Gadot), Mother (Lopez) and all the others you mentioned, I’m all for this. If the talentless Russo Bros can spend 200m on cocaine with Gosling and make subpar sheet like The Gray Man, everyone should get a shot to make something half decent
Talentless? That’s a bit much. Their work has been consistently great and they know what makes action scenes engaging. They would have made Heart of Stone better.
Of course this is a case where it’s not easy to make a good action movie starring a strong lady, but too many film makers treat it like rocket science and fuck around. The lead has to be worth investing in, and the action scenes need to be well shot, edited and choreographed.
Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War/Endgame were great but what did the Russos bring to the table. Cos without the Marvel machine, Cherry/The Gray Man/Citadel were outright trash.
As for female led action flicks, i’m still waiting for Atomic Blonde 2. instead i get meh like bullet train and the fall guy
Ok this one is half decent. Alba sells her action scenes alot better than Gadot and Lopez in their recent action roles for Netflix. A highlight is a fight in the hardware store early on in the movie. The climax though is disappointing cos even though i pay for HDR i still can’t see anything when they shoot the action in the dark. BUT the biggest failure of this movie is this….Jessica Alba vs MAGA cnts should be alot more interesting and exciting than this movie
I had semi-high hopes for Trigger Warning, and while I liked parts of it, the rest was disappointing.
The trailer makes the movie look like it’s gonna be mostly about close quarters combat, but other than the opening scene and the hardware store, it wasn’t that much. There were actually a few too many slow spots when there should have been more urgency.
Jessica Alba does do well in the action for the most part, but there were bits and pieces that didn’t work, like in the hardware store, after she cuts one guy, she holds her knife out like a sword which looked dumb.
I suspect the movie also used the outdated drop frame editing technique from The Touch and Fearless as sometimes, it looked like there were jerky movements in the fight scenes in between movements.
The villains were all disappointing as the movie makes the audience think it’s the corrupt family, but then they’re portrayed as weaklings when the militia guys they’re selling to undermine them, and then they turn out to be dipshits too. After a big deal was made out of the lead terrorist, he was like an afterthought.
On a 1 to 5 scale, this gets a 2 and 1/2 out of generosity.
I’m so happy I chose to cancel my Netflix account as my act of self-care for 2024. I think it was probably ‘Heart of Stone’ that sealed the decision, but it had definitely been brewing for a while!
Cancel Netflix? But then you’re gonna miss the gloriousness that is the Snydercut of rebel Moon 1 & 2. How will you live without watching these cinematic masterpieces that will change cinema forever and be placed alongside scifi classics like 2001, Star Wars and Bladerunner.
I’m still working my way through that quandary one day at a time. So far I’m feeling zero regret at missing the likes of ‘Atlas’ and now this one, so hopefully things continue that way. 🙂
