On June 24, 2024, 88 Films is releasing the 4K Ultra HD for Fist of Legend, a 1994 martial arts classic directed by Gordon Chan (Thunderbolt). The film stars Jet Li (Danny the Dog, League of Gods) and features action choreography by Yuen Woo-ping (Miracle Fighters, In the Line of Duty 4).

In the most electrifying performance of his celebrated career, international superstar, Jet Li, plays Chen Zhen – also famously portrayed by Bruce Lee in 1972’s Fist of Fury – the matchless number-one student of Chinas preeminent Kung Fu master, Fok Yun-gap.

Upon returning home to Shanghai after a period of study abroad, he discovers that his homeland has been devastated by a brutal Japanese occupation, and that his once proud martial arts academy has fallen into disarray following the untimely demise of his beloved Master – allegedly in a challenge match with a member of the Japanese Black Dragon Clan. Disgusted by the official verdict on his teachers death, Chen embarks on a heroic and uncompromising one-man quest to uncover the true killer and restore dignity to his fallen people-a journey that will bring him into deadly confrontation with Japans most formidable fighters.

Fist of Legend also stars Chin Siu Ho (The Blonde Fury), Yasuaki Kurata (Eastern Condors) and Billy Chow (Tai Chi II).

  1. Ningen says:

Hopefully with the ending intact this time? Quentin screened that version at the New Beverly.

  2. TiredRob says:

I don’t have 4K yet, for now will have to enjoy it on DVD. Glad it’s getting a new release though. Jet Li is awesome.

  3. Andrew Hernandez says:

Even though I looked up the rationalization for region coding, it still doesn’t make sense.

Even if you have an all region player, what if you want to take your Region B movies on vacation or to a friend’s house? It’s gonna be a pain in the ass to have to lug your player around wherever you go.

    • Typo says:

I live “in the region B”. I don’t see the interest of going on vacation with a Blu-Ray. And I still could go in any “region B country “.

And my real friends live in my country.

  4. David Rees says:

It is being released Blu ray as well as 4K UHD

  5. Typo says:

By the way, is it a 2K or 4K restoration? If not, I’ll keep my Blu-Ray.

  6. Andrew Hernandez says:

Are some of these special features also on the Dragon Dynasty DVD? I could have sworn it was the same actor interviews as well as Sensei Kurata’s school.

After much pressure and frustration, I did get one of the special Blu Ray players from the Goodie Emporium, and was surprised at how light and compact it was. I guess if I can’t beat them, I had to join them, and doing so was a good choice!

    • Ska Martes says:

As far as I can tell its just the same extras from DD ported over…they even include interviews with worse than Brett “worse than Bey Logan” Ratner.

As for the movie itself its the best its ever looked with the original HK intro credits and not the one Rapy Weinstein conjured up. The best thing to note for completists is the Frank Djeng commentary and the alternate cantonese track. When Kurata and Jet have their duel in the cemetry Kurata keeps speaking Japanese instead of switching over to Cantonese as per the Dragon Dynasty and Metropolitan releases.
