It has been over 2 years since the release of Donnie Yen’s Iceman. The film, directed by Law Wing Cheong (Punished), was a 3D remake of 1989 classic, The Iceman Cometh, which had Yen in place of Yuen Biao, and Wang Bao Qiang (Kung Fu Jungle) in place of Yuen Wah.
Obviously, the first film was released, but Iceman 2 was pushed back to 2016. A teaser poster was even produced, which curiously had Raymond Yip (Bruce Lee My Brother) credited as director – an odd observation, considering Law Wing Cheong supposedly shot both films back-to-back. Even if there were re-edits and/or reshoots involved, one would think that Raymond Yip would be listed as co-director to Law Wing Cheong.
We’re now at the tail-end of 2016 and still no sign of Iceman 2, not even a trailer, but there is still hope: According to imdb.com (which is very hit or miss), Iceman 2 now has a 2017 release date, along with a new poster (via DiP), which shows the presence of Yasuaki Kurata (Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars).
So will we finally see Iceman 2 in 2017, or will it be Donnie Yen’s version of Full Love? Only time will tell (no pun intended). Until then, if you’re hungry for some new Donnie Yen action, Star Wars: Rogue One and xXx 3 are right around the corner.
We’ll keep you updated on Iceman 2 as we hear more.
