RELEASE DATE: May 14, 2019
Well Go USA Entertainment is getting ready to unleash their deadliest weapon yet: Triple Threat (read our review), an upcoming action film by Jessie V. Johnson (Savage Dog, The Debt Collector) that’s best described as a martial arts-themed Expendables.
Triple Threat is getting a Blu-ray/DVD release on May 14th (pre-order here), which will feature Interviews with the Cast, Trailers and English SDH subtitles.
The anticipated movie features an ensemble cast of international action stars that includes Tony Jaa (Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy), Tiger Chen (Monk Comes Down the Mountain), Iko Uwais (The Raid 2, The Night Comes for Us), Michael Jai White (Falcon Rising), Scott Adkins (Accident Man), UFC Champ Michael Bisping (xXx: Return of Xander Cage), Celina Jade (Wolf Warrior 2), Jeeja Yanin (Chocolate) and Michael Wong (Z Storm).
Here’s what you can expect from the film’s plot, according to THR: After a billionaire’s daughter becomes the target of a mercenary cartel. Her only protection are two down-on-their-luck fighters and a third who has vowed revenge against the others. Jaa, Uwais and Chen are the protagonists, while American thespians Adkins, Bisping and White are the villains.
Pre-order Triple Threat from Amazon.com today!
Oh hell yes, would love to see Jaa and Uwais have a face off in the film. Fingers crossed
Gonna see it!
Very excited to see Jai White, Adkins, Yanin, and Jaa all in one film.
But am I the only one who finds Iko Uwais and Tiger Chen completely charisma-free ? They do great things with their body, but to me their respective screen personas are dull as dishwater.
Both Uwais and Chen just let their martial arts fighting skills fully complete their on-screen personas(alongside their grand acting abilities).
Uwais had me teary-eyed in Headshot, I heart him.
Oh my God! HYPE! This will be awesome!!!
If this is good, this should become a franchise, van damme, gina carano can be in the sequel
I would be on board with just Jaa OR Uwais, but both of them in one movie? Take my money!!
Im 34 and feel too old for this movie! Not one old-school star … Should have put Loren Avedon or someone cool in there.
… OH, just watched the trailer, as an old fella, I must say that Thai-style action looks pretty darn good!
I’m 54 and I feel that this film is definitely for me.
So hyped!!!
I cant wait any longer for this movie,i hope there is a UK cinema release planned even if its only in selected cinemas
But am I the only one who finds Iko Uwais and Tiger Chen completely charisma-free ?
Not a fan of Tiger Chen too, don’t care about Scott, but I “love” Iko!
I think Iko has charisma. But he needs work on his English delivery.
The Blu-ray is coming out the same week John Wick 3 hits theaters. 😳 I don’t know about you guys, but I know what I’m doing that weekend.
After what feels like years of waiting, is there any way this could live up to the hype? I say…yes!
I say yes too! It is important to keep our expectations in check, but even if it isn’t the world’s best I can’t imagine this director and cast making Triple Threat less than good.
I was initially worried about the action – I thought it looked slow and blocky, but I’ve stayed caught up with Johnson’s work with Adkins, and seeing their work in context makes a lot more sense. Johnson’s action is slower, but it’s not from a lack of skill – slowing things down grounds the action so that every punch and kick hits like a brick. That 2-on-1 between Adkins, White and Park was fantastic! I’m thinking Triple Threat’s gonna be packed with stuff like that. I’m more pumped *now* then I was when all of the hype started to begin with.
I agree with you, Tory. Considering how in vogue the handheld school of action photography is right now (even when it’s done well, like in ‘The Raid’ and ‘Jailbreak’), I enjoy the fact that Johnson is out there doing slightly more restrained camerawork with nice, wide angles to capture all of the action.
Well… Not expecting a masterpiece… I’ll get the German Blu-ray.
No. The German DVD will be enough.
“American thespians Adkins, Bisping and White are the villains.”
The only American in that sentence is White. Adkins and Bisping are both British.
That feeling when City on Fire is better at The Hollywood Reporter’s job than The Hollywood Reporter.
does anyone know where/what theaters are going to be showing this? ?
I saw the film in theaters March 19th. I’m so happy it was executed properly (thanks Jessie V. Johnson), balance of screen time with all martial artistt and one-on-one fight scenes choreographed nicely by Tim Man. I’ve been keeping an eyw on the development of this film since 2016. It was worth it. I will support the Blu-ray release.
Oh yes, I’m glad this is not a Netflix exclusive.
I wish more people would talk about Ron Smoorenberg’s role. I was afraid he’d be taken out without throwing a single kick, but I’m glad he had more to do than Jeeja. I’m also hoping for a reunion with the main cast.
