This movie… I found it not good at all (but a little better than the atrocious Battle royale II). And it gets a new 4K master on Blu-Ray… I am really too dumb to see any interest in that release.

I must also be too old and boring…

Fukasaku Kenta? X-Cross? What about his dad Kinji’s obscure but intense looking Double/Triple Cross? That’s one I want to see on blu ray.

    • I love that movie! It’d be a dream to see a V-Cinema Blu-ray boxset – include ‘Triple Cross’, Atsushi Muroga’s ‘Score’, Akihisa Okamoto’s ‘Lady Battle Cop’, and Takashi Ishii’s ‘Black Angel’ and ‘Gonin’. I’d be first in line!

I wish I knew more about V-Cinema, or had more access to it. It seemed like that’s where a lot of great talent spawned under the radar and created crazy (and sometimes taboo) works that are worth seeing for Asian cinephiles.

My jumping point is Taskashi Miike, and I’ve stumbled upon some random ones over the years like Triple Cross, Zero Women series, and Black Angel (very atmospheric, like a Japanese art house take on Girls with Guns!). But if you have any resources, articles you’ve written about this topic, or where I can access more of them, I’d be grateful!

Takashi Ishii’s 2 Black Angel (specialy the 2nd), his 3 Gonin (the first stays the best but I like the othe two). And Frozen is awesome.
