Director Adrian Teh Kean Kok, who unleashed the 2018 military action film Paskal: The Movie, is back with Wira, which will hit Netflix on June 15, 2020 (via FCS).
This Malaysian martial arts thriller stars Hairul Azreen (Operasi X, Paskal: The Movie), Henley Hii (23:59, Red Storm) and features The Raid’s Yayan Ruhian (The Raid, John Wick: Chapter 3, Beyond Skyline).
A man with ex-military force background prefers to deal with problems using his diplomatic ways, despite being skilled and fearless in fighting. However, he is forced to fight in his attempt to obtain justice for his family and community as he is left with no other options (via RF).

Looks good! Wonder if this has any chance of hitting VOD (at the very least) in the States.
Pingback: Trailer For WIRA Starring HAIRUL AZREEN & YAYAN RUHIAN. UPDATE: Netflix Premiere Date | M.A.A.C.
I thought Wira was ok. There was a good amount of action, but I felt like it was missing a certain something that I can’t put my finger on. I think part of it is that Hairul Azreen spends a majority of it using the blunt end of a machete which inhibited his techniques. The parts of the movie where he’s empty handed are much better.
Even in the final fight with Yayan Ruhian, he kept using the blunt end of a machete which wasn’t working for him until he lost his weapon, and it became a more even match. I think the point of it was that Hairul didn’t want to kill, but the message wasn’t conveyed in the best way.
I thought the real standout in the movie was Fify Azmi who replaced the original actress who injured herself. I’d like to see her in something like Furie where she can really throw down.
