I AM THE CAPTAIN NOW! Before the controversial ‘Citizen Vigilante’ Uwe Boll made the migrant thriller ‘Run’

Cult director Uwe Boll (In the Name of the King) is currently making headlines with his latest film, Citizen Vigilante, which has become an unlikely viral sensation. The politically charged thriller follows a vigilante (Armie Hammer) who targets undocumented immigrants responsible for deadly crimes, a premise that reportedly led to the film being banned in Germany.

The ban drew the attention of Elon Musk, who shared the film online for free, helping it rack up more than 10.5 million views. After its streaming debut, Citizen Vigilante climbed to the No. 1 spot for digital purchases on both Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video. According to Boll, the film had earned around $600,000 as of June 30, 2026, against a reported production budget of $2 million.

Since its streaming debut, Boll has appeared on dozens of high profile media outlets promoting the film, and with each passing day, it continues to gain momentum. Even Yippee Ki‐Yay Mother Video’s official Limited Edition Blu-ray sold out completely within just a few days.

Surprisingly, what few people are talking about is Boll’s previous film, Run, another politically charged thriller centered on – you guessed it – undocumented immigrants. This time, a group of Somali migrants reaches the Italian coast after a perilous journey across the Mediterranean, setting off tensions that begin to affect both locals and tourists in a small seaside town. Before long, the situation spirals into violence. Worth a Musk share?

The film stars Amanda Plummer (Pulp Fiction), James Russo (Once Upon a Time in America), Ulrich Thomsen (Banshee), Costas Mandylor (Citizen Vigilante), Michel Qissi (Tong Po from Kickboxer) and Barkhad Abdi (the “I am the captain now” guy from Captain Phillips).

For the first time ever, Run is getting a Limited Edition Blu-ray release from Yippee Ki‐Yay Mother Video, the indie label behind the now sold-out Citizen Vigilante edition.

The first 250 copies of Run will be released as Limited Editions and will include:

  • Autographed by  Boll himself
  • 4 lobby cards
  • Custom trading card
  • Hand-numbered
  • Multiple behind the scenes features
  • Video and Audio Commentary by Uwe Boll
