  1. Andrew Hernandez says:

It’s nice to see Maggie Q kicking ass again.

  2. YM says:

Looks like The Long Kiss Goodnight (even got Sam Jackson in the same role), but without the witty Shane Black script. But Martin Campbell has been a pretty consistent action director so who knows!

  3. Aerosniff Someglue says:

Samuel L Jackson. Can’t stand the guy, immediate boycott. And that pitch…

  4. If Eastern Heroes was still releasing physical media they’d probably release this as ‘Naked Weapon 2’.

  5. KayKay says:

Sam Jackson always reminds me of this exchange from Ted 2:

    Ted: What’s your middle name?

    Samantha Jackson: Leslie.

Ted: Oh, my God! You’re Sam L. Jackson!

John: That’s great! I mean, just like Sam L. Jackson.

    Samantha Jackson: Who is that?

Ted: You ever seen any movie ever? He’s the black guy

  6. Andrew Hernandez says:

I just watched The Protégé, and it was pretty good. I was hoping Martin Campbell would do something akin to The Foreigner, and parts of the movie are similar but not as good.

Maggie Q is in fine form and it’s amazing that she did this movie 2 months after having spinal surgery. She was good in her action scenes. But the one issue I juggle with is her and Michael Keaton and their forced chemistry. I know it’s considered ageist to say “he’s too old for her,” but aside from that, his character is simply not charming in the movie and I didn’t buy into him being able to seduce Maggie Q.

The final act is a little slow and deprives the audience of a finale, but I’m not sorry I saw the movie.
