She has a very particular set of skills. Skills she has acquired over a very long career…
We’ll soon be seeing action legend Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Royal Warriors) in The Surgeon, an upcoming action thriller from writer/director Roshan Sethi (A Nice Indian Boy, The Resident).
The film – produced by Thunder Road Pictures (John Wick franchise) – follows a retired surgeon (Yeoh) who is abducted and forced to operate on a mystery patient. Though greatly outnumbered, her captors have overlooked her greatest weapon: 35-years of surgical experience, leading to an explosive and brutal confrontation during which she outwits and cuts down her enemies in a visual style that defies anything you have seen before. It’s accompanied by a fast-paced, pulse-pounding, Thin Lizzy-infused soundtrack,(via Deadline).
The Surgeon also stars Martin Freeman (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), Laurie Davidson (A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story), Yuri Kolokolnikov (The Last Ronin) and Joseph Mydell (Conclave).
🔥 Footnote: Writer/director Roshan Sethi is a practicing radiation oncologist at a Boston hospital. Drawing from his firsthand experience in medicine, Sethi brings an authentic medical perspective to The Surgeon.
A release date is still pending from Sony Pictures. Until then, check out an image from the film, followed by the Trailer to one of Yeoh’s best:

Now this is the kind of casting news that really gets fans buzzing! Michelle Yeoh teaming up with the creators of John Wick for a new action thriller titled The Surgeon feels like a perfect match. She’s not just an Oscar-winning actress with a magnetic presence; she’s also a total force in action roles, boasting decades of martial arts and dramatic chops. With Yeoh on board, you can bet the film will deliver not only on stylish fight scenes but also on emotional depth and strong character development. The John Wick team is renowned for pushing the boundaries of modern action, and bringing Yeoh into the fold only heightens those expectations. If The Surgeon manages to blend gritty, high-stakes storytelling with Yeoh’s unique mix of grace and intensity, it could turn out to be one of the most exciting thrillers we’ve seen in years. I’m definitely marking my calendar for opening night!
This sounds really cool, and I’d love for it to succeed. I just hope that Michelle Yeoh isn’t going to be doubled like crazy. I don’t expect her to perform fight scenes at the level of 20 years ago, but I’d rather she do the kind of action that doesn’t require stunt people to step in for her all the time.
Not this movie but Michelle Yeoh was really good in Its My Time. There’s zero chance this movie has any commercial success outside of China since theres no action and leans into melodrama and she plays a character who is an old auntie who is awsome at the rubix cube. On the plus side I’m glad that the director didn’t dub over Michelle’s heavily accented Mandarin.
As for the Surgeon, might be ok . Not sure of the connection between Thin Lizzy and the movie but sure any chance to expose more people to Phil Lynott and co isnt a bad thing. As long as the John Wick team and their subteams have nothing to do with this movie then it has a chance to be good. I still havent recovered from the shitefest that is Love Hurts.
