The 2024 martial arts-infused thriller Monkey Man definitely wasn’t a one-off actioner for Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire). In fact, Patel is headed right back at it for A24’s The Peasant, an upcoming revenge tale that he – once again – will not only star in, but also direct and write.
The Peasant is being described as having shades of Braveheart and John Wick as well as notes of King Arthur. After being updated by Patel, the story willcombine medieval knights with feudal India. Set in the 1300s, it centers on a shepherd who embarks on a rage-fueled campaign against a group of mercenary knights who ransacked his community, revealing himself to be more than he seems (via Deadline).
The film is co-written by Will Dunn (Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel) and produced by Thunder Road Entertainment (the John Wick franchise).
