Today, Sony is releasing the 4K UHD + Blu-ray (SteelBook) for The Last Dragon, a 1985 cult favorite directed by Michael Schultz (Krush Groove).

Also known as Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon, the film stars Taimak (The White Girl), Julius Carry (Disco Godfather), Vanity (Action Jackson), Christopher Murney (Maximum Overdrive) and Glen Eaton (Trained to Kill).

An enjoyable pastiche of martial arts, romance, music, and video, The Last Dragon presents a likable young hero, Leroy (Taimak), who aspires to become a kung fu master. Though black and living in Harlem with his family, Leroy lives like a Chinese. Trouble arises in the form of a huge black man who calls himself “Sho’ Nuff, who is determined to prove himself the kung fu master of the neighborhood.

The Last Dragon also stars Leo O’Brien (New Jack City), Faith Prince (My Father the Hero), Mike Starr (Dumb and Dumber) and Ernie Reyes Jr. (Red Sonja).

    Saw this cult classic 2 or 3 times in theaters when it first came out, it definitely has some nostalgic value for me. I hope Sony puts some respectable effort into making this special edition actually something special (please don’t pull a Warner Bros act on us!), the bonus material on the blu-ray release was pretty sparse & uninspired.
