RELEASE DATE: February 15, 2022
On February 15, 2022, Media Blasters is releasing a Blu-ray for 2019’s Rise of the Machine Girls, a loose remake of Noboru Iguchi’s The Machine Girl.
The film is directed by Yuki Kobayashi (Death Row Family), produced by Yoshinori Chiba (The Machine Girl) and Yoshihiro Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police).
Official details:
Meet the two new mechanical enhanced sisters who replace their missing anatomy with high-powered automatic weaponry the same way some people collect tattoos! As sideshow freaks, the sisters just scrape by while secretly lusting for revenge against the sinister Dharma company that forced their poor mother to cash them in as babies for their body parts! Beware the wrath of two battle-busting sisters bent on vengeance!
Rise of the Machine Girls stars Himena Tsukimiya (Red Blade), Kanon Hanakage (Nowhere Girl) and *drum roll* cult martial arts star Tak Sakaguchi (Re:Born, Versus).

Why cant we just get Ryuhei Kitamura to make Versus 2? What’s the deal?
So basically ‘Machine Girl’ meets ‘Yakuza Weapon’, on a budget of about 10 Yen. Great.
I’m ok with that as long as it’s entertaining!
This genre of “hardgore” produces mixed results. I like Machine Girl and Tokyo Gore Police, but I didn’t like Helldriver or RoboGeisha.
Hard Revenge Milly had some good parts, but was overall lacking. I haven’t seen some of the others, and I wasn’t exactly in a hurry to. I hoped that Karate Kill would set a better standard for how the genre should be.
Yeah, ‘Machine Girl’ and ‘Tokyo Gore Police’ felt like honest to God movies, and then Sushi Typhoon’s output took a steep, steep decline. Paul is right, it’s like they know they can churn out these movies for dirt cheap and somebody somewhere will buy them, regardless of quality, as long as they have some gore and Japanese schoolgirl outfits.
Frankly, Tak Sakaguchi is way too talented for this crap.
I thought he retired after Re:Born, so I don’t know what he’s doing here. In the meantime I hope this is as “good” as Machine Girl.
Yoshihiro Nishimura directed Ninja War of Torakage not too long ago, and people praised it as being more serious than the Sushi Typhoon but still satisfyingly bloody and full of action. Harris Dang in particular praised it.
One of think Nishimura’s maturity would influence this new Machine Girl.
