Don’t miss the Trailer for Slate below:
I got Arahan vibes from this movie, and that’s a good thing. The plots are different, but the spirit of both movies is similar. It wasn’t available to rent, so I bought it off Right Stuff Anime, and I’m not sorry that I did.
The movie doesn’t look expensive, but it doesn’t look “cheap” either, and has a nice clean look to it. Leading lady Ahn Jie Hye is likable enough in the movie, and watching her use a sword is fun. At times it feels like an anime with the way characters overly express themselves or are introduced.
The fight choreography while taking a somewhat simplistic approach also looks anime inspired and produces some good fight scenes with intricate swordplay with the highlight being a tussle with a dagger Weil ding assassin who gives Ahn a surprisingly good amount of trouble.
Slate is a fun little film that doesn’t require much thought and it’s a good way to spend an afternoon.
