“Peppermint” Theatrical Poster
Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde better brace herself, because there’s another unstoppable killer on the way. Pierre Morel, the director of 2008’s Taken, is prepping Peppermint, an upcoming female-centric actioner starring Jennifer Garner (Elektra).
According to Deadline, Peppermint is a high-action revenge thriller, with a premise likened to John Wick and John Wick 2, only with a female protagonist. When her husband and daughter are gunned down in a drive-by, the heroine wakes up from a coma and spends years learning to become a lethal killing machine. On the 10th anniversary of her family’s death, she targets everyone she holds responsible, the gang that committed the act, the lawyers that got them off, and the corrupt cops that enabled the murderous incidents.
Peppermint hits Theaters on September 7, 2018.

Excited to Atomic Blond but this Pierre Morel “SHAKY CAM master” sucks.
C’mon…you can’t use Garner’s filmography reference as ‘Daredevil’, when the character she played had her very own movie with ‘Elektra’!

I like this! After Alias and Daredevil, (I want to pretend that other solo movie doesn’t exist) I was hoping she’d return to the action genre. I guess she’s having a “re-awakening” like Keanu Reeves.
I can also imagine this is therapeutic for her after her personal life has been out in the open and having a string of forgettable roles over the last few years.
I hope this movie succeeds
I finally caught Peppermint, and the word of the day is “lackluster.”
The movie’s narrative is awful. It begins with Jennifer Garner killing one of the bad guys before going into the past when her family is murdered, and then jumping back into the present when she becomes a killer. (Not showing how or where she got her training.)
When you think youre gonna see her kill the bad guys one by one, several key deaths end up happening off screen. It only gets worse as we barely follow her journey or see things from Garner’s perspective.
This movie has the “idiot plot” where the plot only works if everyone is an idiot. Garner doesn’t bother trying to cover her tracks, which alerts everybody that she’s a vigilante. Then the cops and criminals can’t put the pieces together that it’s her or why she’s doing this.
Garner ends up being a supporting player in her own vehicle while most of the film focuses on the cartel leader and the cops looking for her. Lastly, the action is few and far between. There’s 2 brief shoot-outs and very little hand to hand combat.
I’ve been forgiving of Pierre Morel, as I thought The Gunman was an under appreciated flick, but none of his signature flashiness exists here.
It’s upsetting that Jennifer Garner’s second chance at stardom is sabotaged by such a mediocre presentation.

Classic line! Sorry to hear this one didn’t work out, but if anything it sounds like it’s time for Hollywood to stop riding the coat tails of ‘Atomic Blonde’ already, and move onto the next action gimmick (not that a fighting femme fatale should ever be considered a gimmick of course). Although having said that, I’m hearing consistently positive rumblings about Nicole Kidman in ‘Destroyer’, so there may be hope yet.
I don’t think it’s so much about riding the coat tales as it is about how to properly put a movie like this together. With Peppermint, one of its many problems was that the movie’s lead and action were afterthoughts.
I know nothing about Destroyer, so I’ll have to look it up.
