Zhang Yimou (Hero, Shadow) is hangin’ up ‘wuxia action’ for ‘gangsta action’ with Under the Light (aka Rock Solid), an upcoming thriller the director had finished shooting before the pandemic. “It’s what I’m calling ‘hardcore gangster’ — it’s very urban, with a very grave and stern realistic style, and the visuals are very unique,” Yimou told Variety.
Under the Light stars Zhou Dongyu (The Taking of Tiger Mountain), Lei Jiayin (The Wandering Earth), Zhang Guoli (Kung Fu Yoga) and Yu Hewei (The Founding of an Army).
In addition to Under the Light, the acclaimed filmmaker also has One Second in-the-can, which is a Cultural Revolution-era film that serves as Yimou’s “love letter to cinema.” Lastly, Yimou has started pre-production on Impasse, a spy feature that begins
shooting this year.

Drone shots have devalued the birds eye view in cinema and always make trailers look bad having them. Film looks well made, but I don’t like all the greens in the color.
