It was originally planned as as reboot, but now a sequel to John Woo’s 1997 actioner Face/Off is currently in-development from Paramount Pictures.

Adam Wingard – of Death Note, The Guest and You’re Next – is attached to direct, with his frequent collaborator, Simon Barrett, to write. The film will be produced by Neal Moritz (Fast and Furious franchise) and executive produced by David Permut, who also produced the original (via Deadline).

According to World of Reel (via reputable industry insider Daniel Richtman), Travolta and Cage will be returning for the sequel as their respective characters, but more as supporting roles:

Face/Off 2 is apparently centered around the children of Castor Troy (Cage) and Sean Archer (Travolta) who grow up destined to … face off. This is too wild to be true, but knowing Richtman’s source of reporting, he probably saw it on a recent production grid, which should not be discredited.

(Spoiler alert: Barrett, who is writing the sequel, has stated that he doesn’t believe Castor Troy actually died in the original).

The original film centered on an FBI agent (Travolta) who undergoes a facial transplant surgery to take on the physical appearance of a terrorist (Cage).

We’ll be sure to update you as we learn more. For now, we leave you with the original film’s classic Trailer:

How about the people at Paramount take a step back and literally fuck their own face…off

  2. Ningen21 says:

I thought the Face/Off reboot was Will Smith’s Gemini Man…

  3. Scorpion kasamasa says:

As the saying goes “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” sad sad day for classics.

  4. Aerosniff Someglue says:

    Another one to boycott. Next!

  5. Kashif Nasar says:

No Woo, no Cage and No Travolta?

I’m struggling to see the point. This will likely be a retread that gets shelved by the suits at Paramount.

  6. Ningen says:

The original film is currently free on YouTube.

  7. Andrew Hernandez says:

I don’t know about this one. I would have been more excited about it 10 years ago, but I hope this would succeed. Adam Wingard has proven he knows his action with his Godzilla/Kong films, and The Guest had some good action moments.

I do hope he knows how to incorporate Woo’s techniques.

  8. Cuttermaran says:

You are too early with your april fools joke

  9. Andrew Hernandez says:

The more I think about this, the more concerned I get. The stars of the original aren’t going to be the stars this time, they’ll be pushed aside and probably be presented as not so great, and I can’t envision them doing Woo styled action at 60 and 70.

The last watchable movies Travolta did were Savages and Killing Season, and aside from American Crime Story on TV, he’s done nothing but shitty DTV movies and embarrassing commercials. I can’t see him being passionate here.

I’d rather this movie star completely new characters with no connection or involvement of the originals.
