Gaming as a Healthy Lifestyle Choice

Lifestyle gaming doesn’t have to be a guilty pleasure. It can be part of a balanced and healthy life with the right habits. It’s all about how you plan, how long you play, and what you do in between. Let’s look at how to make gaming work for your health, not against it.

Build Structure into Your Time Gaming

Gaming can be immersive; that’s part of what makes it fun, but it can also lead to long hours without breaks. Start by setting time limits; use a timer if you need to. Try the 90/20 rule: play for 90 minutes, then take a 20-minute break. Walk around, stretch, and drink water. Sessions work even better for some people: one or two 45-minute rounds with clear stopping points. Stick to a schedule: play after you’ve done your workout, not instead of it. Make games a reward, not a replacement.

Stay Physically Active Outside the Game

Gaming is mostly sedentary. That’s fine; so is reading or working on a laptop, but sitting for hours without movement isn’t balanced. Balance your gaming with regular physical activity. This doesn’t mean you have to go to the gym every day. Walk, do push-ups between rounds; even small bursts of movement help, like doing 10 squats every time you die in a match. Try active games too. Sports-based games can keep you moving while you play.

Choose Games That Challenge

Challenge games can improve memory, focus, and decision-making. They keep your brain active while still being fun. Multiplayer games can also boost communication skills and teamwork. Just be mindful of toxic communities. Choose games that keep the competition healthy.

Stay Social While Gaming

Gaming doesn’t have to be isolating. Play with friends, join a team, and use voice chat to stay connected. Social interaction is key to mental health. Just make sure your online interactions are positive; avoid toxic players and choose communities that are respectful and inclusive. Gaming can be a great way to hang out, especially if you and your friends live in different places.

Make Healthy Snack Choices

It’s easy to reach for snacks and energy drinks during long sessions, but too much sugar and caffeine will make you crash. Keep water nearby. Choose snacks that won’t spike your blood sugar: nuts, fruit, or popcorn. Avoid eating in front of the screen if possible. Take breaks for meals. Treat your body like an athlete, even if you are not.

Prioritize Sleep

Get enough sleep. Games are fun, but sleep is non-negotiable. Late-night sessions can mess with your body clock. Poor sleep affects focus, memory, and mood. Set a hard stop at least an hour before bed. Turn off screens and let your brain wind down. Games will be there tomorrow. Sleep is how you level up in real life.

Listen to Your Body

If gaming starts to feel like a chore, take a step back. Stress can build up quickly. Use blue light filters, stretch your hands and neck often, and check in with yourself. Gaming means being in control; you play the game; the game doesn’t play you.

Use Gaming to Build Discipline and Set Goals

Games are built around progress; you level up, unlock new content, and complete missions. That structure can help you develop real-world discipline. Start by linking gaming time to daily tasks: finish a workout, then play for half an hour; complete your study session, then jump into a co-op match. If you’re writing or working on a project, use gaming as a reward after you meet a target.

This habit trains your brain to connect effort with reward and turns gaming into a positive instead of a distraction. Games also teach persistence—you try, fail, adjust, and try again. That same mindset helps with real-life challenges. If you can grind through a tough level, you can build a new habit or push through a hard week. By turning play into a structured part of your routine, you strengthen both your focus and your follow-through.

Conclusion

Gaming can be part of a healthy lifestyle. The key is balance: move your body, stay connected, rest well, and choose games that engage your mind, not just your reflexes. Use your time wisely, and gaming can support your physical, mental, and social health. What changes will you make to your gaming routine today? Are there any games you like to play that help with your mental health?

Pop it, Tommy, pop it!!! Are Philip and Simon Rhee reuniting with Eric Roberts for a ‘Best of the Best 5’?

"Best of the Best 2" Theatrical Poster

“Best of the Best 2” Theatrical Poster

Back in 2015, while promoting his “comeback” movie Underdog Kids, Philip Rhee (Furious) revealed that he would be rebooting his successful Best of the Best saga, which started with Best of the Best (1989), Best of the Best 2 (1993), Best of the best 3: No Turning Back (1995) and ended with Best of the Best 4: Without Warning (1998).

Here’s what Rhee told TAE back in 2015: “We’re going to reboot the whole franchise with a new cast. I have things… I’m going to bring in elements that nobody has ever seen before. I will produce the picture.”

Since then, the hopes of a new Best of the Best chapter has been more or less stagnant. Until now…

Holy Night: Demon Hunters (2025) Review

“Holy Night: Demon Hunters” Theatrical Poster

“Holy Night: Demon Hunters” Theatrical Poster

Director: Im Dae-Hee
Cast: Ma Dong-Seok, Seohyun, David Lee, Kyung Soo-Jin, Jung Ji-So, Cha Woo-jin, Lee Da-il
Running Time: 92 min.

By Paul Bramhall

It’s been almost 10 years since Ma Dong-seok’s breakthrough role in Train to Busan, and in that time he’s battled zombies, serial killers, crocodiles, gangsters, reptilian human hybrids, gangsters, heavenly guardians and even the yakuza. It was perhaps inevitable at some point then, that his anvil sized fists would be aimed in the direction of satanic demons from the depths of hell. Holy Night: Demon Hunters is the movie that gives us exactly that, with Dong-seok running the Holy Night demon hunting agency (yes you read that right). What’s even more surprising is that it’s not the first time for Korean cinema to prove demons can be dealt with by being punched in the face, with 2019’s The Divine Fury offering up an MMA infused take on the battle of good vs. evil.

In his latest outing Dong-seok is paired with former Girls Generation member Seohyun (Love and Leashes, I AM.) as a shaman with supernatural powers, and Lee David (Svaha: The Sixth Finger, Pluto), who doesn’t seem to have any purpose other than to turn up and film their encounters. It’s a legitimate question to ask if it’s possible to have too much of a good thing, and certainly in the late 2010’s when Dong-seok was starting to cultivate his amicable onscreen Continue reading
